Students will gain a multifaceted understanding of Japanese culture through exchanging opinions on Japanese language usage and communication styles with international students while explore the ways to promote smooth multicultural communication.
国際共修クラスで留学生とともに世界的に有名な日本の古典文学『源氏物語』を読むことを通じて、日本語と日本文化を複眼的に捉えると同時に、複数の言語と文化についての知見を深める。
In an intercultural co-learning class students will gain a multifaceted understanding of Japanese language and culture through reading The Tale of Genji, a world-famous classical literature in Japan, while deepening knowledge of multiple languages and cultures.
The purpose of this course is for students to learn about Japanese communication behaviors and culture, using a comparative approach with other cultures. You are also expected to learn through your own experiences--very interactive and practical.
You will also learn intercultural communication mechanism and get to practice communication cross-culturally.
Through the peer teaching discussion in the beginning of each class, you will learn about the other cultures of your peers as well as Japanese values, and your own culture.
This course will basically cover the chapters that are not covered in spring, and aims at deepening the understanding of the spring course, and it is not mandatory to take the spring course.
It is taught in English and some Japanese.
異文化コミュニケーション学の基本を学びながら、焦点として、日本人のコミュニケーション行動と文化について学ぶ。
特に日本人のコミュニケーション行動の動機は何かを、日本人の価値観を学びながら考察する。自分の文化について無意識であることが大半なので、日本人学生にとっては、留学生とどう違うか、またはどの部分が似ているかを体得できる。
留学生と触れ、異文化コミュニケーションを実践で体験する。
前期でカバーされていない章を後期では、基本的に授業に取り入れる。さらに異文化コミュニケーションについて、そして日本人のコミュニケーションや価値観についての理解を深めること。しかし、前期を取る必要は無い。
授業は英語と少しの日本語で実施する。
日本人学生と留学生との意見交換や共同作業を通じて、近代日本の歴史・文化的事象を多様な視点で理解することを目指します。また、その歴史・文化的背景の違いによって生じているさまざまな価値観、世界観を理解し、多様な文化間コミュニケーションのあり方を身につけることも目的です。
Japanese and international students will exchange opinions and cooperate on projects to gain an understanding of modern Japanese history and culture from a variety of perspectives. The class also aims to provide students with an understanding of the differences in historical and cultural backgrounds that create various values/worldviews and diverse intercultural communication skills.
・Eligibility
This class will be conducted in Japanese. B2 level in the CEFR/JF Standard for Japanese-Language Education (N1 in the JLPT).

「彼女はにっこりした」「彼女は微笑を浮かべた」…このような表現から、どんな女性をイメージするだろう。「にっこりする」「微笑を浮かべる」は英語ではどちらも “smile” だが、日本語母語話者は“smile” する、異なる人物をイメージすることがある。また、日本語母語話者は、このような表現と人のイメージの関係を（時に操作的に）利用して情報伝達をしている。この授業では、日本語母語話者学生と外国人留学生がことばの「操作性」を材料に日本語や日本文化について考え、他言語との違いや共通点を学び、また協働作業を行う。
（外国人留学生対象日本語プログラムの授業との合同開講、授業は日本語で行う）
What kind of woman do you imagine from such expressions as "kanojo ha nikkori sita” or “kanojo ha bishou wo ukabeta” (both mean “she smiled")? "Nikkori suru" and "bishou wo ukaberu" are synonyms for the English word "smile.” From expressions indicating the same action, native Japanese speakers may imagine different images of the person. And they use this relationship between representation and personhood to convey information, sometimes manipulatively. In this class, Japanese and international students will think about Japanese language and culture, and
learn the differences and commonalities between Japanese and other languages through collaborative work using such “manipulability” of language as a material. (This course is conducted in Japanese.)
「人を笑わせたいが難しい」「みんなは笑っているが自分はおもしろく思えない」…このような「おもしろさ」にまつわる困難は、個人の嗜好や言語能力によるのか、それとも社会文化的な背景が影響するのか。本授業では、日本人学生と外国人留学生が、おもしろい話を通して日本語や日本文化について考え、また他文化との比較や翻訳・通訳活動を行うことで、「おもしろさ」にかかわる多様性と共通性を学ぶ。
（外国人留学生対象日本語プログラムの授業との合同開講、授業は日本語で行う）
"I want to make people laugh, but it's too difficult." "Everyone else is laughing, but I don't find it funny."... Are these difficulties related to "fun" due to personal preference, language ability, or socio-cultural background? In this class, Japanese and international students will think about the Japanese language and culture using funny talks, and learn about the diversity and commonalities between Japan and other countries of "fun" through comparing with other cultures and translation activities. (This course is conducted in Japanese.)
日本人学生と外国人留学生が、日本の歌を題材に、共に日本語や日本文化について考えたり学んだ歌を共に歌ったり感想を話し合ったり意見交換を行なったりすることを通じて、多様な価値観や世界観があることを知るとともに、日本文化の特色や他の文化との共通性を学ぶ。[使用言語：日本語]
/Using Japanese songs as source materials, international and Japanese students will think about the Japanese language and culture, exchange their impressions and opinions, write essays, sing songs together, and make group presentations of the songs they choose. Students will study the characteristics of Japanese culture and points of commonality with the international students' home countries/regions while learning about diversity in values and world-views. This course aims to explore aspects of traditional Japanese culture to enhance the students’ understanding of the origin of modern Japanese society and the perspectives of the Japanese people. This course is conducted in English and targets both international and domestic students. For international students, it will provide opportunities to develop their understanding of Japanese culture and to experience it. For domestic students, it will provide opportunities to re-discover Japanese culture.
この授業では、日本の伝統文化に触れ、現代日本社会の成り立ちや日本人の視点について理解を深めることを目的としている。この授業は英語で行われ、外国人留学生と国内学生を対象としている。留学生には日本文化への理解と体験の機会を提供し、国内学生には日本文化を再発見する機会を提供する。
