【国際共修】Understanding Japan through Traditional Japanese Culture (English)
日本の伝統文化を通じた日本理解（英語開講）
This course aims to explore aspects of traditional Japanese culture to enhance the students’ understanding of the origin of modern Japanese society and the perspectives of the Japanese people. This course is conducted in English and targets both international and domestic students. For international students, it will provide opportunities to develop their understanding of Japanese culture and to experience it. For domestic students, it will provide opportunities to re-discover Japanese culture.
この授業では、日本の伝統文化に触れ、現代日本社会の成り立ちや日本人の視点について理解を深めることを目的としている。この授業は英語で行われ、外国人留学生と国内学生を対象としている。留学生には日本文化への理解と体験の機会を提供し、国内学生には日本文化を再発見する機会を提供する。
1. Students will gain fundamental knowledge of traditional Japanese culture.
2. Students will demonstrate an understanding of traditional Japanese culture.
3. Students will effectively engage in interpersonal communication, and exchange opinions and information.

This course consists of three parts: (1) lectures, (2) experience in and demonstrations of traditional Japanese culture, and (3) reflection. Professionals from each area are invited to offer lectures on traditional culture. This course also provides students with opportunities to experience Japanese culture inside and outside the classroom.

Students will be assessed and graded based on the following:
Attendance and active participation 30%
Group presentation (Japanese culture workshop) 20%
Homework assignments and tasks 25%
Final report 25%
Two (2) late arrivals (more than 20 minutes late) or early leaves equal one (1) absence.
All students are expected to complete assignments by the due dates and times specified. Points will be deducted for assignments turned in late.

期末レポート 25%
2回の遅刻（20分以上）または早退（20分以上）は1回の欠席に相当する。
指定された期日までに課題を提出することが求められる。 課題の提出が遅れた場合は減点される。
Students are required to prepare and review for each class. In addition, students are expected to participate in group work outside of the class.(Approximately 2 hours per week)
予習・復習を必ず行うようにすること。その他、授業時間外にグループ活動を行う。

Students must attend the first class session.
The maximum number of participants for this course is 30. If the application exceeds the capacity, the selection will be conducted.
Google Classroom will be used as the learning platform for this course.
Office hours are from 11a.m. to 1p.m.(JST) on Wednesdays. Face-to-face or online meetings can be arranged by appointment. The contact information for the lecturer will be given in class.
