公共建築＝施設としての時代から、「公共」そのものの意味が変化している現代において、その意味を問い直すことは建築人として必須である。実際、「公共」への問いに真摯に向き合った建築も生まれてきている。本講義では、実際の公共建築を題材として、公共についての文献を読み込み、分析・ディスカッションを行なう。これらを通して、現代建築における公共の意味を探る。なお、分析は数人のチームで取り組む予定である。

The concept of a public has been changing from the beginning of the modern era when people seemed to equate a public building with a facility. These days, people would understand publicness as a more dynamic concept, which has been produced through our daily lives. Upon such kind of changes, some talented architects create interesting buildings that have spaces to encourage the people who are in, seek a new way of publicness. In this course, students read some books about the thinking of the public, consider the relationship between the public and space, and discuss some actual situation of public buildings. Through these works, students explore the meaning of the public in modern architecture.

授業科目の目的・概要
建築物は、民間企業や個人によるものであれ、政府や自治体などによって建設されたものであれ、社会資本としての
性格を広く有している。我々の社会を支える一要素であることはもちろん、広く目に触れ地域景観を形成するためである。それらを社会資本として的確にパフォーマンスさせるためには、公共空間との整合性を十分に見極めながら、それぞれの空間構成と運営システムの間に的確な関係を構築していくことが必要となる。
本講・演習では、実際にいくつかの実例に基づきながら、建築に要求される公共性とはどのような要素から成り立っているのか、それぞれの建築の種類ごとに求められる空間構成のパターンはどのように変遷しているか、それらの社会的なパフォーマンスがどのように評価されているか、などを中心として議論する。それらを通じて、適切な効果を得るためにはどのような計画プロセスが必要となるのか、について体得することを目指す。
達成目標
建築の「計画」の善し悪しは、形態として直接現れる部分が少ないために、最もそれを表象すると信じられていた「平面」型の分析と理解に従来は講義の主眼がおかれてきた。しかしながら、実践の適応力を向上させ、インターンシップなどの理解をより深めることを目的としている本講では、従来型の静的な平面分析に留まらず、POE(Post Occupancy Evaluation)などの手法を応用して、「計画」をデザインするための方法論を幅広く学ぶことを目指している。具体的な達成目標としては、建築の公共性の理解、社会資本としての評価技術、空間と運営の相互関係の読解力、さらにはその背景にある適切な計画プロセスを構築する能力、などが挙げられる。

Architectures have a character as social capital whether it is small or large, or built by an individual, a company or a government. It should be an essential element in our society, and sometimes it creates a distinguished landscape in regions. To perform them as social capital, it is necessary to open their own space to the public and to organize a good relationship between spatial composition and human behavior under a thoughtful management. In this lecture, students discuss what kind of elements is important to realize publicness for architecture, how we can design architecture as a valuable social capital. Through these discussing, students would understand how they had better organize a planning process to achieve good architecture.
Because a planning process has no concrete substance, it is difficult to show which the process would be adequate for good architecture. Therefore, a conventional lecture has been focused to analyze the pattern of planning on each building type. However, this lecture aim to improve students’ capabilities for practice with not only conventional static plan analysis but also actual practices, such as POE (Post Occupancy Evaluation). Students learn a wide range of methodologies about architectural planning. Specific achievement goals include a rational understanding of publicness of architecture, its own character as social capital, and also comprehension of the interrelationship between space and management. Through the lecture, they would develop the abilities to organize an appropriate planning process behind good architecture.

This course aims to learn essential functions and systems of building equipment, necessary knowledge for planning, and the relationship between building and equipment.
Learn the following items related to sanitation, air conditioning, and electrical equipment.
1) Sanitary equipment: Roles of plumbing and sanitation facilities, an overview of plumbing plans, simple calculations, etc.
2) Air conditioning system: Roles of air conditioning system, ventilation, smoke exhaust, etc., the outline of equipment, simple calculations, etc.
3) Electric System: Overview / Substation, lighting, outlet, control, etc., simple illuminance calculation, etc.

The aims of Infrastructure Planning are as follows; i. to learn the definition and the characteristics of infrastructure; ii. to learn the planning process of infrastructure projects, and infrastructure management; and iii. to learn the basic knowledge of public economics necessary in understanding i. and ii.
The outline of the course is as follows. First, I lecture about the definition and the characteristics of infrastructure (3 classes). Second, I lecture the planning process and the management system of infrastructure projects (3 classes). Third, I pick up some planning systems (e.g. transportation planning, river planning and urban/regional planning) and lecture the analysis tools for the better planning(9 classes).
The goals of this course are as follows. First, you acquire the ability to explain the characteristics of infrastructure using the basic knowledge of public economics. Second, you understand the planning process of infrastructure projects and the infrastructure management. Third, you come to be able to explain the pros and cons of the current planning system.

Objective: Our society is becoming more and more complex, and "facilities" are an important part of the framework of the "society" in which we live. For those of us who are involved in architecture, to be involved in creating facilities is to create a society. In this class, we will study the functions and meanings of each facility, and the role of space in each facility, going back to the history of each type of facility, in order to learn how to make our society a little better. At the same time, this will lead to the creation of "architecture" in the true sense of the word, considering its operation.
Summary: Students will learn what humans have needed in order to live in society, and what role architecture and space have played in this, as well as acquire the basic theories of architectural design and planning to put these into practice.
Objectives: To understand the basic architectural requirements (functions, an arrangement of rooms) of major facility types. In addition, students will learn about the social significance of these facilities, and the basics of production skills that enable them to make social proposals that include management systems.
