U.ベックによれば、社会学には、（１）理論研究、（２）経験的研究およびそれによる理論の吟味、そして（３）時代診断という三つの課題があるとされる。社会学者たちは、みずからの生きる近現代社会をどんな社会として時代診断し、理論化し、検証してきたのだろうか。この授業の目的は、社会学的な現代社会論をいくつか取り上げながら、現代社会の構造と変動をマクロな視点から考察し、また同時に、そこで生きる個々人のライフコースの変容について検討することである。授業の前半では、主に、近代化論とその問題について考える。授業の後半では、現代社会のさまざまな特徴に焦点を当てた現代社会論を取り上げ、その議論が私たちの生活にとって有する意味について検討する。最後に、エネルギー問題や廃棄物、社会的排除を取り上げ、現代社会の「オフショア化」（J.アーリ）の見本例として考察する。
This is a lecture-centered course.
According to Ulrich Beck, a well known German sociologist, Sociology must carry out the three basic tasks; (1)theoretical investigations,(2)empirical researches and (3)diagnosis of the times. How the sociologists have "diagnosed" the modern societies and theorized? In this course, we will review the various theories of modern society and discuss the basic structures of modern society and its changes. In the first half of the course, we will mainly consider modernization theories and their limitations. In the second half of the course, we will take up the theories of contemporary society, which focus on various characteristics of our nowadays world, and examine the meaning of these discussions for our lives. Finally, we take up energy problems, waste issues, and social exclusion as examples of the "offshoring"(J.Urry) in society today.

本授業の目的は学生にとって身近な「運動やスポーツ」を単に身体を動かすPhysical Exerciseとして考えるのではなく、「運動やスポーツ」を取り巻く様々な文化的背景、心理・社会的要因、身体適応の実態やメカニズムを理解することによって、「自己の身体」、「運動することの意味」、「スポーツの文化的意味」等への理解を高め、将来にわたり経験する運動・スポーツの新たな側面に気がついてもらうことである。複数の教官がそれぞれの専門の立場から、運動やスポーツに関する話題をとりあげ概説するオムニバス形式のコースである。
The aim of this course is to acquire the awareness of new aspects of exercises and sports from cultural, social, psychological, sports science and health perspectives. In this course, students are expected to develop multiple channels to connect with exercises and sports, rather than to regard exercises and sports simply as "physical exercise". The course will be conducted in an omnibus format, with several teachers outlining topics related to exercises and sports from their own specialist standpoints.
不確実性やリスクは、災害・環境・健康・科学技術・犯罪等といった多様な問題領域と関わり合いながら、昨今の社会学でも重要な概念の一つとなっている。この授業ではリスクや不確実性に関する社会学の定評あるテキストを取り上げ、多様なテーマをリスク概念と関連づけながら議論していくことで、受講生とともに、「リスク社会化」する社会を、社会学的にいかに論じうるかを探ってみたい。とくに、いわゆる「リスク社会」論では相対的に見過ごされてきたジェンダーとリスクとの関連について、考察する。
"Risk" and "uncertainty" are treated as the basic concepts of sociology today. Those are related to the various subjects such as disater, environmental problem,crime,and technological crisis. In this course, we will discuss the way to discribe the modern society which has become a "risk society" through doing a close and careful examination of the text. Particularly, we will discuss the relationship between gender and risks, which has been somewhat overlooked in so-called "risk society" theory.

本講義では、定期刊行物、新聞などの分析を通した近現代中国史研究の分析方法論などについて考えていきます。そこで、本講義では近現代中国におけるイスラームとムスリムを題材として扱います。まず近現代中国と中国イスラームについて概観していきます。そのうえで、定期刊行物や雑誌を用いた中国ムスリム研究の事例を紹介していきます。その際に、具体的なトピックについての資料の講読・演習や討論などをまじえながら、具体的な課題の検討を試みます。
This course will discuss analytical methods for studying modern and contemporary Chinese history through the analysis of periodicals and newspapers. Therefore, this course will focus on Islam and Muslims in modern and contemporary China. First, we will provide an overview of modern and contemporary China and Chinese Islam. We will then present examples of Chinese Muslim studies using periodicals and journals. Throughout, we will attempt to examine specific issues through readings, exercises, and discussion of materials on specific topics.
