This course provides opportunities for both international and domestic students to develop a better understanding of Miyagi's traditional culture through learning about the Sendai Tanabata festival. Students will not only learn about the historical background of the festival, but also learn about current challenges related the festival, and suggest proposals to continue the tradition. Students will also design and create Tanabata decorations, and participate in the Sendai Tanabata Festival. This course is conducted in English.
この授業では、国内外の学生が仙台七夕まつりについて学び、宮城の伝統文化への理解を深めることを目的としています。仙台七夕まつりの歴史的背景について学ぶだけでなく、祭りにまつわる現在の課題についても学び、伝統を継承するための提案を行います。授業では、七夕飾りのデザイン・制作も行い、仙台七夕まつりに飾りを出展します。 この授業は英語で開講します。
Objective and Summary of Class
This course aims to explore Japanese culture by introducing the origins of modern Japanese society and enhancing students' understanding of the mentality of the Japanese people. This course operates under the assumption that understanding local culture is an important first step in becoming a global citizen, and thus focuses on the traditional culture of Miyagi prefecture. Students will learn about and discuss several concepts related to Japanese culture and then analyze Suzume Odori (Sparrow Dance) using the cultural concepts discussed. Students will also learn how to dance the Suzume Odori through classes and videos.

この授業では、日本の伝統文化の理解を通じて、現代の日本社会や日本人の考え方についての理解を深めることを目的とする。この授業では、グローバルな社会を理解する上で欠かせない「ローカル」の理解を深めるという視点から、宮城県という地域の伝統文化に焦点を当てる。この授業では、学生は日本文化に関する様々な概念についてのディスカッションを行い、それらのコンセプトを用いてすずめ踊りについて分析し、理解を深める。学生は、授業を通じて、すずめ踊りの踊り方についても学ぶ。

This course aims to provide opportunities for students to learn about the basics of Japanese society through its foreign language education system by group discussion, lectures, and a project. Students are expected to develop a comparative view of the education/learning system and its practice between Japan and other countries/regions. Sessions are held face-to-face and partially online (See the section on “In Addition”).
This course will be conducted in English, and sometimes in Japanese for supplementary use. Students will need to have the operational skills to interact and discuss in English. In case of using Japanese, translation should be carried out by students for mutual support.
本科目は、グループディスカッション、講義およびプロジェクトにより、日本の外国語教育システムと実践の学習を通して日本社会の基礎を学ぶことを目的としています。履修する学生には、日本と他国/地域に関する教育および学習制度やその実践を比較する視点を養うことが期待されます。授業は対面で、ただし一部オンラインでおこないます（「その他」の項を参照してください）。
本科目は原則として英語でおこない、補助的に日本語を使うことがあります。英語による対話やディスカッションをするための英語運用能力が求められます。場合により日本語を使うときは、相互支援のために学生同士で通訳をおこないます。
この授業では、主に日本の発酵食品と仙台味噌について学び、仙台味噌の海外展開について検討します。前半部分では、発酵食品について、日本や海外の料理・調味料を紹介しあいます。後半部分では、仙台味噌についてのゲストスピーカーによる講義や工場見学を通じて知識を得、仙台味噌を履修している留学生の出身国・地域の人に広めるためのレシピの開発や販売方法について提案します。
この授業は、国内学生と留学生が日本語を使い学習を行います。さまざまな出身の履修生と交流を行うことで、コミュニケーション能力、協働する能力などを身につけます。
In this class, students will learn mainly about Japanese fermented foods and Sendai miso, and discuss the overseas expansion of Sendai miso. In the first part, students will introduce each other about fermented Japanese and international cuisines and seasonings. In the latter part, students will gain knowledge about Sendai miso through lectures by guest speakers and factory tours, and make suggestions on how to develop recipes and market Sendai miso to promote it to people in the countries and regions where the international students taking the course are from.
In this class, domestic and international students study together in Japanese. By interacting with students from various backgrounds, students will acquire communication and collaboration skills.

国際関係においては多種多様な背景を持つ人との分け隔てのないコミュニケーションが重要です。コロナ禍に見舞われる現代は、様々な課題が浮き彫りとなってきましたが、中でも孤立孤独の課題やコミュニティの分断は深刻です。演劇的手法には、言葉や文化の壁を越えて人々と人間関係を構築するためのノウハウが蓄積されていますが、大学教育の中で、このような分野横断的なスキルを身に着ける機会がほとんどありません。この科目では個々の人々が持つ多様性を理解するために、性格特性や人間科学に関する所見を取り入れながら実践的な課題に取り組みます。具体的には、対面で演劇的手法を取り入れたグループワークを実践しながら、豊かな人間関係を構築し、人々と共生していくための課題に取り組んでいきたいと思います。(※基礎ゼミで履修した学生にも初めて受講する学生にも対応できるように、内容は工夫されています）
In international relations, it is important to communicate with people of multicultural backgrounds in a non-discriminatory manner. In the Corona disaster, various issues have been highlighted in the current culture, such as the challenges of isolation and loneliness, and the fragmentation of communities. Theatrical methods have accumulated expertise in building human relationships with people across language and cultural barriers. However, there are few opportunities to acquire such cross-disciplinary skills in university education. In this course, students will work on practical issues while incorporating findings on personality traits and human science to understand the diversity of people. Specifically, I would like to work with students on issues of building rich relationships and living in harmony with people, while practicing group work that incorporates theatrical techniques, in face-to-face settings.

この授業を通して、仙台の産業や商店街に対する理解を深め、コミュニケーションの取り方、プロジェクトワークの進め方、データの分析方法について学びます。また、課題に対する解決策を他のメンバーと協力しながら検討し、発表資料作成能力、グループで発表できる能力、他の発表の聞き方の能力などを身につけます。
Students from diverse cultural backgrounds will participate in discussions and cooperative projects to generate proposals for solving problems facing the Sendai shopping districts.
Through this class,student will deepen their understanding of Sendai's industry and shopping district, and learn how to communicate, how to proceed with project work, and how to analyze data. Students will study solutions to problems in cooperation with other members, and acquire the ability to create presentation materials, make presentations in groups, and listen to other presentations.
