【国際共修】Understanding Miyagi's Traditional Culture (The Sendai Tanabata Festival)(English)
宮城の伝統文化理解（仙台七夕まつり）（英語開講）
This course provides opportunities for both international and domestic students to develop a better understanding of Miyagi's traditional culture through learning about the Sendai Tanabata festival. Students will not only learn about the historical background of the festival, but also learn about current challenges related the festival, and suggest proposals to continue the tradition. Students will also design and create Tanabata decorations, and participate in the Sendai Tanabata Festival. This course is conducted in English.
この授業では、国内外の学生が仙台七夕まつりについて学び、宮城の伝統文化への理解を深めることを目的としています。仙台七夕まつりの歴史的背景について学ぶだけでなく、祭りにまつわる現在の課題についても学び、伝統を継承するための提案を行います。授業では、七夕飾りのデザイン・制作も行い、仙台七夕まつりに飾りを出展します。 この授業は英語で開講します。
1. Students will gain fundamental knowledge of the Sendai Tanabata festival.
2. Students will demonstrate an understanding of Miyagi's traditional culture, by studying the historical background of the Sendai Tanabata festival and its meaning to local community and businesses.
3. Students will effectively engage in interpersonal communication, and exchange opinions and information.

4週目～15週目：仙台七夕まつり（グループプレゼンテーション、七夕飾り製作）

・4月11日に行われる初回授業に必ず参加すること。
・2週目からの受講は原則受け付けない。

・2024年仙台七夕まつりは8月6日（火）～8月8日（木）に開催される。
Students will be assessed and graded based on the following:
Attendance 30%
Active participation 10%
Tanabata Group presentation 20%
Homework assignments and tasks 10%
Final report 30%
Two (2) late arrivals (more than 20 minutes late) or early leaves equal one (1) absence.
All students are expected to complete assignments by the due dates and times specified. Points will be deducted for assignments turned in late.

2回の遅刻（20分以上）または早退（20分以上）は1回の欠席に相当する。

Students are required to prepare and review for each class. In addition, students are expected to participate in group work outside of the class.(Approximately 2 hours per week)

The maximum number of participants for this course is 70. If the application exceeds the capacity, the selection will be conducted.

Office hours are from 11a.m. to 1p.m.(JST) on Wednesdays. Face-to-face or online meetings can be arranged by appointment. The contact information for the lecturer will be given in class.
