今日の機能主義的言語理論には、機能的談話文法（Functional Discourse Grammar）、役割指示文法（Role and Reference Grammar [RRG]）があるが、今回は、生成文法、理論的前提を部分的に共有する認知文法（Cognitive Grammar）との相違を
踏まえた上で、RRGを紹介する。
Today's functionalist linguistic theory includes Functional Discourse Grammar) and Role and Reference Grammar [RRG]). In this class, I will mainly introduce RRG, highlighting the differences between generative grammar and cognitive grammar (a linguistic theory that shares some of its theoretical premises).
自然言語は、さまざまなレベルで構造化されている。まず、音と意味の恣意的な組み合わせである「語」、「語」と「語」の統語的な組み合わせにより作られる「句」ないし「文」、更には、その「文」と「文」のつながりにより作られる「複文」や「重文」から成る。また、「語」の内部にも、複合語や派生語のばあいには、一定の法則で支配された内部構造がある。ここで「構造」とは、統語構造、形態構造、音韻構造、概念構造のことであり、加えて、「文」の中での構成要素同士の語順の決定には「情報構造」も大きな影響を及ぼす。また、「文」の構造と意味の理解には、メタファー・メトニミーなどの多機能性に関する法則や、文法化・構文化・語彙化・イディオム化の言語変化に関係する法則も関与する。
本講義では、生成文法理論、語彙意味論、形態論、音韻論、機能文法、認知文法、歴史言語学、言語類型論などの言語学の各分野の最新の知見と成果を踏まえて、自然言語の構造の体系と、そこに見出される法則性について講述する。また、言語の形式と意味が通時的にどのように変化して来たか、その結果として、世界の言語にはどのような変異が見られるか、などの問題についても講述するとともに、演習問題にも取り組む。
英語の音声と文法に関する基本的現象が現代言語学の観点からどのように分析されるのを解説し、英語学における基本概念や論証の仕方を理解してもらう。また、英語の歴史的変遷や他の言語との違いを解説することにより、英語という言語の普遍性と特殊性を理解してもらう。
This course is a continuation of Introduction of English Syntax I, focusing on the formal analysis of syntactic structures of English within a framework of Generative Grammar. We will also see the sound system and historical change of English.
この授業では，まず統語論の基本的な概念と原理を学び、その後にさまざまな統語現象の分析事例に触れます。また，口頭発表および自律的な学習習慣のスキルの獲得も目指します。
This course deals with the basic concepts and principles of syntax as well as case studies of various syntactic phenomena. It also enhances the development of students’ skill in making oral presentation and self-regulated learning.

日本語の文法変化の具体的事例として機能語（助詞）の確立過程を取り上げ、言語の変化と多様性およびそれを支える構造について考える。日本語の、音韻、形態、統語・意味的な側面が相互に関連しながら変化していく様相を観察し、個々の形態の変化を条件付けたり制約として作用したりする語彙的意味や構造的特性と、変化をもたらす言語運用上の諸条件の関係について考察する。言語変化の把握や記述・分析法の一例を提示するとともに、さまざまな立場を批判的に検討し、言語の変化や多様性にかかわる諸現象を分析する手法を身につける。
The main aims of this course are to explore properties of syntax and syntactic change in the history of Japanese. Some aspects of morphology, semantics and pragmatics are also included where relevant. We will survey selected changes and discuss different accounts, that will also introduce various approaches to syntactic change.This course deals with the factual linguistic knowledge and the specialized knowledge on historical development of Japanese functional morphemes. It also help students acquire the skills and proficiency needed for historical study on Japanese grammar.
