This course introduces the anthropological approach to the social organization of countries in Northeast Asia and it neighbours,including Japan, Taiwan, Korea,and China. We use the context of cultures of disasters in Japan, China, and some of its neighbouring countries. The topic will be dealt within both so-called ‘natural’ and ‘human-made’ catastrophes. Each lecture will deal with the concept of social solidarity, resilience, vulnerability, community, nature, environement, climate change, and other contemporary concepts. Most lectures will be followed by a group discussion and a general conclusions.
The classes will be onsite.

シベリアの人類学は、人類史・生態適応・植民地主義・言語文化復興・気候変動・グローバル化などに関わる幅広い領域から構成される。その基盤的知識を学ぶため、近年刊行された著書「The Siberian World」（John Ziker et al eds, Routledge, 633page）などを教科書としながら関係するテキストを演習形式で読む。1990年代の冷戦崩壊以降の四半世紀にわたる成果を学ぶことで、環境と文化に関わる研究視覚を身につけることを目標とする

Socio Anthropology of Northeast Asia 東北アジア社会人類学
北東アジア地域を念頭に置き、文化人類学的アプローチの有効性や導入方法について、民族間の文化や社会的関係を分析し理解するために議論する。特に、現代社会における環境、生業のあり方について、比較のレンズを用いて焦点を当てる。また、視覚的な手法も紹介する。授業は、講義と演習の形式で行われる。授業は、講義と演習の形式で行われる。文化人類学の基礎知識を有し、英語のテキストを使用するため、英語に堪能であることが期待される。
地球上のさまざまな環境・地域の人類文化の多様性に着目し、それらの理解と記述を行いながら、人間とは何かを問う文化人類学について概説する。人類学的視座とそこで提供される民族誌的事実は、常に我々の社会の常識を揺さぶり、そこで当然視されてきた論理を明らかにしてきた。基本的な概念と思考の枠組みについて学ぶと共に様々な文化の多様性に触れることを目的とする。
This course focuses on the diversity of human cultures in various environments and regions around the world, and provides an overview of cultural anthropology, which questions what it means to be human, while understanding and describing them. Anthropological perspectives and the ethnographic facts they provide have always shaken the common sense of our society and clarified the logic that has been taken for granted. The purpose of this course is to learn about basic concepts and frameworks of thought, as well as to experience the diversity of various cultures.
東北アジア地域を中心に、さまざまな社会の多様性がどのように形成されてきたのかを、「歴史」と「比較」の視点から分析するための知識と技術の習得をめざす。授業の前半では、人類史におけるさまざまなトピックや学史を紹介することで、大まかな歴史を理解するとともに、偏見や失敗の歴史、学問的な限界について議論する。同時に、現在われわれが観察できる文化多様性が、歴史の産物であるということを確認する。後半は、さまざまなデータベースや、定量的な比較の手法と研究例を紹介し、利点と限界について議論する。実習を通じて、さまざまな時空間スケールから東北アジアを理解するためのひとつの視点を習得することを目標とする。
突然にやってきて人々の日常生活の基盤を突き崩してしまう自然災害。被災者たちや周囲の人々が災害を受け止め、生活を立て直す中で、宗教はいかなる役割を果たしてきたのか。この授業では自然災害をめぐる宗教的観念、儀礼的実践に関する文献を毎回取り上げ、現代社会における宗教の意義や課題について議論と講義を行うことで問題の理解を深める。
This course explores various previous studies on disaster and religion and discusses meanings and tasks of religion in modern society.
東日本大震災から13年が経過したが、地震、津波、原子力といった複合災害に見舞われた福島県においては、沿岸部の一部で未だに避難指示が継続している等復興はまだ道半ばであり、加えて震災から長い時間が経過したからこそ浮かび上がってきた課題も数多く存在している。一方で、全ての市町村において少なくとも一部地域で避難指示が解除され、全市町村で帰還・居住が可能となる等明るい兆しも見えてきている。また、イノベーションコースト構想や福島国際研究教育機構等、「創造的復興」と呼ばれる新たな取り組みが行われている一方で、被災した地域の人口は震災前と比較して非常に少なく、多くの住民が被災地域外で生活している。
我々東北大学においては、地域や人々に起きたことの検証のみではなく、その課題の解決に向けて、あるいは単純な復旧のみではなく、地域の新たな未来の創造を目指して、様々な取り組みが行われている。
本講座では、まさに現在進行形の課題、すなわちカレント・トピックである福島の原子力災害被災地の現状と課題、そしてその復興・再生に向けた取り組みについて、工学・農学・生物学・政治学・人類学等文理両面に跨り、被災地・被災者やコミュニティの課題から、自治体や国の政策に至るまで、複眼的視野を涵養するにふさわしい幅広い視点から学ぶ。福島に縁の深い学生も、福島のことをほとんど知らない学生も、福島の今と復興・再生への取り組みを一緒に学び、まずは「知る復興」から福島の復興にかかわってほしい。そして、本講義をきっかけに、「地元の大学だからこそできることは何か。」、「13年が経った今だからこそできることはないか。」を学生一人一人が考えるきっかけにしてほしい。
More than thirteen years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster. In Fukushima Prefecture, reconstruction is still halfway through, with evacuation orders still in place in some coastal areas, and many issues have just begun to emerge. On the other hand, there are some positive signs, such as the lifting of evacuation orders in some areas of Futaba-machi at the end of August 2022, which means that now in every evacuated municipality people are allowed to return and restart a living. In addition, while new initiatives called "creative reconstruction" such as the Innovation Coast Initiative and the Fukushima Institute for Research, Education and Innovation (F-REI) are being carried out, the population of the affected areas is still very small compared to before the earthquake and many “former” residents live outside the affected area.
We at Tohoku University are not only examining what has happened to the region and its people, but various efforts are being made to resolve the issues, and to create a new future for the region, rather than simply restoring it.
In this seminar, we will discuss the current situation and challenges of the areas affected by the nuclear disaster in Fukushima, and the efforts for reconstruction and revitalization of these areas and as such investigate “Fukushima” as a current topic. The course will cover a wide range of perspectives appropriate for cultivating multifaceted viewpoints, from the progress and challenges of the disaster-stricken areas and communities to the policies of local and national governments, as seen from various academic disciplines, including engineering, agriculture, biology, political science, and anthropology. We hope that both students with deep ties to Fukushima and students who know little about Fukushima will learn together about the current situation and the efforts for reconstruction and revitalization and get involved in the recovery of Fukushima connecting to the idea of "recovery through knowledge". We hope that this lecture will be an opportunity for students to ask themselves questions such as, "What can we do as a local university? and "What can we do now that 13 years have passed? I hope that this lecture will be an opportunity for each and every student to think about what we can do to contribute to the recovery of Fukushima.
