日本語史研究は、古い時代の日本語がどのような姿であったのかという点は、かなり精細に明らかにしてきている。それに対して、言語はどのように変化するのか、また、言語はなぜ変化するのかという観点からの分析が十分ではない。そこで、日本語の歴史上におこった言語変化をあとづけながら、そこにはどのような変化があったのか、また、なぜ変化したのかという観点からの分析を加える。参加者が調査・考察をおこなって、その成果を発表し、議論する。
In this course, we will clarify the linguistic changes that have occurred in the history of the Japanese language, and analyze them from the viewpoint of what kind of changes there were and why they occurred. Participants will conduct their own research and considerations, present their findings, and discuss them.

日本語の文法変化の具体的事例として機能語（助詞）の確立過程を取り上げ、言語の変化と多様性およびそれを支える構造について考える。日本語の、音韻、形態、統語・意味的な側面が相互に関連しながら変化していく様相を観察し、個々の形態の変化を条件付けたり制約として作用したりする語彙的意味や構造的特性と、変化をもたらす言語運用上の諸条件の関係について考察する。言語変化の把握や記述・分析法の一例を提示するとともに、さまざまな立場を批判的に検討し、言語の変化や多様性にかかわる諸現象を分析する手法を身につける。
The main aims of this course are to explore properties of syntax and syntactic change in the history of Japanese. Some aspects of morphology, semantics and pragmatics are also included where relevant. We will survey selected changes and discuss different accounts, that will also introduce various approaches to syntactic change.This course deals with the factual linguistic knowledge and the specialized knowledge on historical development of Japanese functional morphemes. It also help students acquire the skills and proficiency needed for historical study on Japanese grammar.
日本語は、われわれのもっとも身近にある言語である。とはいえ、実際にはわからないこともさまざまにある。その日本語とはどのような言語であるのか、また、その日本語はどのように運用されているのか。そのような課題に答えるのが、日本語学という学問分野である。ここでは、この日本語学の考え方にもとづいて、現代日本語をさまざまな側面から考えてみる。まず、はじめに日本語学の考え方や分野について概説する。その後、日本語についての調査・分析を参加者自身がおこなっていく。日本語の方言を含むさまざまな日本語についての考察、現代日本語の具体的な運用についての考察をすすめ、報告、議論をおこなう。
This course deals with the basic issues of Japanese linguistics and how they have been treated in the field of linguistics. You’ll get an introduction to the main approaches used in linguistic research, including linguistic structure, phonetics, dialects, history, and discourse analysis. You’ll apply the key methods used in linguistic descriptions to the analysis of your language, and discuss them with your classmates.
言語の歴史は古い文献を探ればわかるように思えるが、文献だけが言語の歴史を知る資料になるわけではない。また、古い文献を探ることにもさまざまな問題がある。そこで、ここでは、日本語の具体的な例を見ながら、言語の歴史（日本語の歴史）を探る方法について考える。同時に、古代語から現代語まで変化してきた日本語の歴史の概要を把握したうえで、日本語の歴史をとらえるための視点について解説する。
Although it would seem that the history of a language can be found by exploring old literature, literature is not the only source for the history of a language. There are also various problems in exploring old literature. Therefore, here we will consider how to explore the history of a language (the history of the Japanese language) by looking at specific examples of the Japanese language. At the same time, after grasping an overview of the history of the Japanese language as it has changed from ancient to modern languages, we will explain the perspectives from which the history of the Japanese language can be captured.

In this course, you will learn the procedures for reading and understanding classical works as the basis of Japanese linguistics and Japanese studies. The text is "The Kyōgen collection written by Toraakira". You are required to prepare for class according to the goal and contents of each class.
