20世紀以降、英米圏を中心に展開している分析哲学は、哲学的問題への取り組みが言語を用いてなされていることに着目し、言語の働きを分析することで哲学的問題に答えようとする。このため、分析哲学では、言語の基礎的現象、例えば、言語表現が何かを指示したり、意味したりすることができるのはなぜかを明らかにすることが重要な課題となった。この講義では、言語の指示や意味、あるいは発話の理解といったテーマに関して、分析哲学で行なわれてきた議論を概観する。

講義では、『省察』本編のテクストを読みすすめるとともに、そこに畳みこまれた哲学的諸問題を引き出し、ときには大きく脱線して歴史的あるいは問題分析的に解明を試みつつ、またテクストに戻るというしかたで、デカルト哲学への導入を試みる。

Logic has a long history, going back to Aristotle. This, however, does not mean that everything has been discovered, and there are still a number of logicians facing various questions. This course aims at providing students with the basics of both technical as well as philosophical topics related to modal logic.
前期の「哲学研究のレッスン (1)」の続きです。哲学専修の２年生は必ず前期・後期ともに履修して下さい。（倫理学専修の方は「倫理学研究のレッスン」の欄をご覧下さい。）
目的は、哲学・倫理学の文献を正確に読解し、そこで展開されている議論をまとめ、それをふまえて討論したり発表したりする力を身につけることです。
最初の５〜10は英語のテクストを用います。折にふれて教員の解説を聞きながら、担当箇所のレジュメを作成し授業時に発表したり、テキストをふまえた討論をしたりします。最後の4回ほどは、担当者が自分で決めたテーマについて発表を行い、みなでそれをめぐって議論します（前期・後期を通じて１人１回発表して頂きますので、後期は、前期に発表しなかった方に発表して頂くことになります）。今学期発表をしない人には、自分で決めたテーマについての学期末レポートを提出して頂きます。
We shall read a couple of chapters from Simon Blackburn's THINK in the first ten sessions except the very first. Previously appointed participants will make a brief report on an assigned passage and then all of us will discuss it. In the last four sessions previously appointed participants will give a presentation on the topic of thief choosing and then all of us will discuss it.
