Analytical philosophical research on pictorial representation

授業の目的と概要

本講義では現代の分析哲学において展開されてきた画像表象の本性をめぐる論議について学び、そこで用いられている一連の概念や、争点となってきた一連の命題について理解を深めることを目的とする。

Course Objectives and Course Synopsis(授業の目的と概要)

In this lecture, we will learn about the debate over the nature of oictorial representation that has been developed in contemporary analytical philosophy, and aim to deepen our understanding of the series of concepts used in the debate and the series of propositions that have been the subject of controversy.

本講義では、画像の本性をめぐる現代英語圏における代表的な理論について紹介・検討することを通じて、「類似性」「イリュージョン」「記号システム」「知覚」「想像」等の鍵概念と画像概念の関連について理解を深め、具体的な事例の分析に活用できるようになることを目標とする。

Learning Goals(学習の到達目標)

In this lecture, we will introduce and examine major theories in analytic philosophy concerning the nature of pictorial images, and we will explore related concepts such as "resemblance," "illusion," "symbol system," "perception," and "imagination." The goal is to deepen your understanding of key concepts and propositions and be able to utilize them in analyzing specific cases.

授業内容・方法と進度予定

本講義では、画像の多様な形や、多様な関連事例についての予備的な考察の後に、画像の本性をめぐる現代英語圏における代表的な理論について紹介・検討を行う。またその中で、「類似性」「イリュージョン」「記号システム」「知覚」「想像」等の鍵概念が画像概念とどのように関連について検討を行う。講義日程の予定は下記の通りである。

Class Schedule and Activities(授業内容・方法と進度予定

In this lecture, after a preliminary consideration of the various forms of pictorial images and various related examples, we will introduce and examine major theories in analytic philosophy regarding the nature of pictorial images. In addition, we will examine how key concepts such as ``resemblance,'' ``illusion,'' ``symbol system,'' ``perception,'' and ``imagination'' are related to pictorial image concepts.
