The course explains the development of Japanese livestock farm according to Japanese social and economic development, and also it's perspective in the viewpoint of economics and business administration.

On the other hand, the fisheries in Japan continues to shrink and is in a severe economic environment, and institutional restructuring is underway.
基礎経済学、漁業制度、漁業経営、流通・加工および水産政策について学び、特に日本の水産業の構造と仕組みを理解することを目的とする。そして、今後の漁業生産の高位安定のために必要な条件や資源管理の方策について考察を深める。
The objective of this course is to study basic economics, fisheries system, fishery management, distribution and processing, and fishery policy, and in particular to understand the structure and mechanism of the Japanese fishery. The course will also deepen consideration of the conditions necessary for high stability of fisheries production and resource management measures in the future.
草食動物は栄養源として植物の茎葉を利用することができる。我々は草食動物のそうした能力を利用し、穀類の生産が不可能な土地で草食家畜を通して食糧生産を行ってきた。近年，安定的かつ安全に食料を供給するという観点から，我が国の集約畜産においても飼料の自給が喫急の課題となっている。本講義では，草地の成立と生産力について学習し、次いで家畜への飼料価値と消化性、ならびに家畜による放牧利用について学習する。さらには、エネルギーバイオマス生産や野生生物揺籃の場といった草地の多面的機能についても学習する。
Herbivore animals can use leaves and stems of plants as nutrient source. By using this chracteristics of herbivore animals, human being has been producing animal foodstuff in land areas where are not suitable for grain production. Recently, self-supply of forages arises as urgent issue in intensive livestock production systems in Japan, in terms of stable and safe food supply. In this course, students firstly learn about establishment and productivity of pastures and grasslands, then feed value, digestibility and grazing by animals. In additoin, students learn about biomass production as energy resource and multi-functions of grasslands such as habitat of wild animals.

The paradigm of 20th century was mass production and mass consumer society. In contrast in 21st century, a great paradigm sift is undergoing to construction of recycling and sustainable society. This perspective has created and developed the concept of environmental conservation and animal welfare. In this course, students understand the knowlege of them and basic researches and technologies of livestock production.
畜産は太陽からのエネルギーを生態系の働きを利用して、肉や乳として人が利用できる形で取り出す産業である。そのため生物と環境の間の関わりを明らかにする生態学の知識は畜産の諸問題を解決するのに役立つ。本講義では、生態学の基本概念を学び、行動学を中心に家畜と環境や人間との関わりについて講義する。
Livestock production is an industry that convertion of the energy from the sun to meat and milk using the function of the ecosystem. Knowledge of ecology which study about relationships between living organism and envirionemt can help solve various problems of livestoc production. In this lecture, students learn about the basic knowkledge of land ecology and the relationships between livestock and environment, and humans.

In Japan, accidents related to food safety and cases related to morals occur frequently, which has become a big problem. With the expansion of international distribution of foods worldwide, it is required to formulate and implement unified safety management regulations. In this lecture, we will explain the knowledge from the basics to the practice regarding the quality and safety of foods, agricultural products and processed products in Japan and their evaluation methods. In addition, the current status and measures for quality and safety management of food, agricultural products and processed products in other countries will be explained. Then, select the topics explained and deepen the discussion among the students.
畜産業に関する講義を受け、その知識を深める。畜産現場や関連工場、処理場、動物飼育施設を見学し、家畜育成・食肉生産、乳肉卵加工､畜産環境、防疫などについて動物コース教員と討論を行い、その理解を深める。
The class lectures animal production system and livestock industries, and students visit farms and institutes for animal husbandary such as public abattoir, feces treatment plant, egg and milk processing factory and feed mill, in Miyagi. Students and professors argue animal production issues together.
