In this course, I will talk about evolutionary biology in land plants from the view of molecular phylogeny, population genetics, evolutionary ecology, and plant taxonomy, In addition, I will talk about conservation biology of wild plants.
Human activity have caused radical changes in ecosystems and serious decline in biological diversity. A number of species have become extinct, resulting in loss of species diversity. In addition, anthropogenic impacts have damaged function of ecosystems. Thus, developments of proper technique to conserve ecosystem and biological diversity is required. This course introduces the foundations of conservation biology to students taking this course. It also deals with evolutionary biology, biogeography, and community ecology, which are base of conservation biology. At the end of the course, participants are expected to understand concept, aim and practical aspect of conservation biology.

In this course, students will understand the relationship between ontogeny and biological evolution, and the adaptive trait, by learning the mechanisms of ontogeny that drives the evolution of living organisms. In particular, the course will give lectures on individual dynamics that generate interspecific differences and diversity of traits inherent in species, such as morphology, mainly on the contents of genetics, developmental biology, cell biology and genome science.
The aquatic environment is home to an extremely diverse range of organisms. While some species have been developed for cultivation and fishery, many species exist in the vast natural open system as substantial or potential genetic resources. In order to develop, sustainably use, and conserve such aquatic biological resources, it is essential to understand the intrinsic diversity of species and the mechanisms that maintain them. In this lecture, we will discuss genetic issues that are important for the development, sustainable use, and conservation of aquatic biological resources with these issues in mind. In particular, we will introduce population genetic and evolutionary perspectives, which are essential for understanding the issues, and cultivate the ability to think more multilaterally about the sustainable use and conservation of aquatic biological resources.

/Students will learn various ideas necesary for studying adaptabilities of plants and animals under given environmental conditions and how researchers have discovered and theorized these ideas for progressing our understandings on adaptabiity at different levels from genes and cells to individuals and populations.
We are using many plant and animal species not only direct, but also after the genetic improvement. For such genetic improvement, high genetic variability is required. On the other hand, there are many species and populations which are on the verge of extinction. It is necessary to consider the sustainable use of such genetic resources. In this class, the methods of evaluation, identification and sustainable use will be considered on the genetic resources.
