デカルトの『第一哲学の省察』（1641年）は、神の存在証明と心身（物心）二元論の確立を目標とするが、さらにそれを目がけて、普遍的懐疑、自己意識と精神の存在、誤謬と自由意志、物体の本質と存在証明、心身結合と人間の生といった幅広いテーマが、おそるべき速度と密度で論じられている。
講義では、『省察』本編のテクストを読みすすめるとともに、そこに畳みこまれた哲学的諸問題を引き出し、ときには大きく脱線して歴史的あるいは問題分析的に解明を試みつつ、またテクストに戻るというしかたで、デカルト哲学への導入を試みる。

倫理学の醍醐味の一つは、道徳や幸福についてたんに意見を言うことではなく、そうした意見を根拠とともに主張したり、その根拠を吟味したりすることにあります。偉大な倫理学者たちが偉大なのにはさまざまな理由がありますが、その一つは、その人たちがしっかりした議論を作り、常識的な前提から、否定しがたいステップで、とてつもない帰結を引き出したりしたことに求めることができるでしょう。この演習では、プラトン以来の西洋倫理学史を、倫理学者たちのテキストから議論を再構成することを通じて学びます。
最初の数回で論証の再構成の仕方を学び、あとはひたすら倫理学者たちのテキストから論証を再構成していきます。たびたび課題を出しますので、演習の前に提出し、演習で素材として提示してください。それをもとに、みなで論証を検討していきます。
In this seminar, we will learn the history of Western ethics since Plato through reconstructing arguments from the texts of the great moral philosophers. In the first sessions, we will learn how to reconstruct arguments, and after that we will work on reconstructing arguments from the texts of the great moral philosophers. Assignments are frequent. Active participation is required.

カントの『純粋理性批判』（1781/87年）をドイツ語原文で読む。今年度はアンチノミー章にとりくむ。担当者には、訳読に加えて、解釈的な設問に応えてもらう。また、進行に応じて、関連するコメンタリーや研究書・論文などを報告する機会を設ける。
We read Kant's Critique of Pure Reason (1781/87) in the original German. We will work on the chapter of "The Antinomy of Pure Reason" this year. In addition to reading, students will be asked to answer interpretive questions and to report on commentaries or articles on the Antinomy.
ヘーゲルをはじめとする近代ドイツの哲学者たちは、ドイツ観念論という名のもとにくくられるのが一般的です。その場合、彼らの哲学が全体として観念論に属する、という先行了解が背後にあります。ただ彼らのテクストを実際に紐解くならば、事情はそう簡単ではないことが用意に見て取れます。そこで本演習では、ヘーゲルの『精神現象学』から「理性」章を取り上げ、観念論をめぐる議論を実際に検証してみることにします。そうすることで、カントの批判的観念論、ヤコービによる観念論と実在論の対比、フィヒテとシェリングにおける超越論的観念論など、観念論をめぐる多様な立場があることが見て取れるようになるはずです。
本演習は、ヘーゲルのテクストをドイツ語の原文で読み進めるかたちで行います。事前に担当箇所を割り当てます。また必要に応じて、カントやフィヒテやシェリングなどの観念論に関する議論も参照します。
Wir werden das Vernunft-kapitel von Hegels "Phänomenologie des Geistes" lesen. Dort wird diskutiert, was der Idealismus eigentlich bedeutet, sowie was die Realität für die Vernunft ist. Hegels Argumentation verweist viele vorhergehende Denker wie Kant, Jacobi, Fichte und Schelling. Helgels Auseinandersetzung mit ihren verschiedenen Behandlungsarten vom Idealismus wird uns klar machen, dass man Hegels Philosophie nicht einfach als Idealismus zu bestimmen ist.
