歴史を叙述することは、人類のみに許された特権的な営為とみなされてきた。しかし、近年ではこうした人間中心主義的な見方に対する批判が高まりをみせている。そこで、本授業では、自然や野生動物といった要素を加味することで、日本の歴史を見直し、人間中心主義的な歴史叙述の是非を検討してみたい。
Narrating history has long been considered a privileged activity only allowed to humans. However, in recent years, there has been increasing criticism of this anthropocentric view. Therefore, in this course, we will review Japanese history by adding elements such as nature and wildlife, and consider the pros and cons of an anthropocentric historical narrative.
現代人にとって「異世界」といえば、もっぱら漫画やアニメの重要素材とみなされるようになっているが、かつて異界（異空間）や他界（死後世界）が日本思想の形成に大きな影響を与えてきたことは間違いない。もっとも、『日本書紀』に描かれる黄泉の国と、中世の仏教僧が語る極楽浄土とでは、同じ他界といっても、それらの性格は大きく異なる。日本人にとっての異界や他界は、歴史の流れのなかで、どのように変容していったのだろうか。本授業では、古代・中世の仏教説話を素材として、異界/他界観の変容を探り、さらにその歴史的な背景を検討してみたい。
For modern Japanese people, another worlds are mainly seen as important materials for manga and anime, but there is no doubt that in the past, another worlds and the afterlife have had a great influence on the formation of Japanese thought. However, even though the land of Yomi described in the Nihon Shoki（Chronicle of Japan completed in 720） and the Pure Land described by medieval Buddhist monks are the same afterlife, their characteristics are very different. How have another worlds and afterlife changed over the course of history for the Japanese people? In this course, we will use ancient and medieval Buddhist tales as material to explore the transformation of the idea of another worlds and afterlife, and further examine its historical background.
現代人にとって、学校で学ぶことはあまりに当たり前の行為と化している。しかし、一人の教師が教壇に立ち、多数の学生に対して講義を行うことは、日本ではせいぜい明治時代になってから一般化した教育スタイルに過ぎない。また、学生個々の達成度を測るため、学期末に行われる試験も、前近代の日本社会では決して一般的ではなかった。本授業では、受講生たちに教育社会史の論文を精読させ、学校で学ぶという行為の意味を深く考察してもらう。
For modern people, learning at school has become a completely normal activity. However, having one teacher stand at the podium and give lectures to a large number of students is only an educational style that became common in Japan during the Meiji period. Additionally, exams held at the end of each semester to measure each student's level of achievement were by no means common in pre-modern Japanese society. In this course, students will be asked to carefully read papers on the social history of education and deeply consider the meaning of the learning at school.

英語で書かれた日本史の文献を取り上げその課題と方法・用語を習得し日本語に翻訳する。
Students will be introduced to works on Japanese history written in English, will gain an understanding of the issues, methods, and vocabulary used in them, and will translate them into Japanese.
本授業では、教育に関連する基本的な諸概念を的確に踏まえるとともに、教育に関する理念や思想およびその歴史について、さらに現代日本にもつながる学校教育の歴史的な成り立ちについて概観する。その過程において、受講生各自の教育体験を振り返らせることによって、教育を支える諸要因とそれら相互の関係についての理解と確認を図る。授業は基本的には講義形式で進めるが、毎時受講生にワークを課して、授業の理解の定着と深化を図る。
In this class, we will provide an accurate understanding of basic concepts related to education, and will also provide an overview of the philosophy and thought behind education, its history, and the historical formation of school education, which is connected to modern Japan. In the process, by having students reflect on their educational experiences, we aim to understand and confirm the factors that support education and their mutual relationships. Classes are basically taught in a lecture format, but students are assigned to work every hour to help establish and deepen their understanding of the class.
江戸時代に商業出版が成立すると、庶民層を対象とする通俗的な書物が数多く出版され、それらは社会に大きな影響を与えた。そこで、本授業では、受講生たちに、江戸時代に出版された幾つかの木版本を読んでもらい、基礎的な史料読解能力と伝統的な文化への理解力を身に付けてもらう。
When commercial publishing was established in the Edo period, many popular books for the general public were published, which had a major impact on society. In this course, students will read some books printed in woodblock prints published during the Edo period, and through that experience, will acquire basic ability to read historical materials and understand Japanese traditional culture.

「教育」の意味とその本質について歴史的に考察し、人間の成長発達における教育・学校や教師の役割について検討する。さらに、欧米とわが国の教育目的の歴史を分析すると同時に、各時代の教育思想について理解する。
In this lecture, the meaning and essence of "education" will be examined historically, and the roles of education, schools, and teachers in human growth and development will be discussed. Furthermore, we will analyze the history of the purpose of education in Europe, the U.S., and Japan, and at the same time, understand the educational philosophy of each period.
