異界と他界の日本思想史
History of Japanese Thought Regarding Another Worlds and Afterlife
現代人にとって「異世界」といえば、もっぱら漫画やアニメの重要素材とみなされるようになっているが、かつて異界（異空間）や他界（死後世界）が日本思想の形成に大きな影響を与えてきたことは間違いない。もっとも、『日本書紀』に描かれる黄泉の国と、中世の仏教僧が語る極楽浄土とでは、同じ他界といっても、それらの性格は大きく異なる。日本人にとっての異界や他界は、歴史の流れのなかで、どのように変容していったのだろうか。本授業では、古代・中世の仏教説話を素材として、異界/他界観の変容を探り、さらにその歴史的な背景を検討してみたい。
For modern Japanese people, another worlds are mainly seen as important materials for manga and anime, but there is no doubt that in the past, another worlds and the afterlife have had a great influence on the formation of Japanese thought. However, even though the land of Yomi described in the Nihon Shoki（Chronicle of Japan completed in 720） and the Pure Land described by medieval Buddhist monks are the same afterlife, their characteristics are very different. How have another worlds and afterlife changed over the course of history for the Japanese people? In this course, we will use ancient and medieval Buddhist tales as material to explore the transformation of the idea of another worlds and afterlife, and further examine its historical background.
本授業の到達目標は、古代・中世の仏教説話を正確に読み解き、日本人の心性とその変遷について考察できるようになることである。
The goal of this course is to be able to accurately read ancient and medieval Buddhist tales and consider the Japanese mentality and its changes.

本授業は、1人1回ずつ担当する学生発表60％、各授業中に行う史料読解力チェック20％、ミニットペーパー20％の割合で評価する。
This course will be evaluated based on 60% student presentation, 20% class participation, and 20% submitting of minute papers.
課題史料は、授業ごとにコピーを配付する。
発表担当となった受講生は、事前に発表準備を進める。
授業ごとに指定する課題史料は、受講生全員が事前に精読しておく。
