Course Title (授業題目)

History of Japanese Thought Regarding Humans and Beasts

授業の目的と概要

歴史を叙述することは、人類のみに許された特権的な営為とみなされてきた。しかし、近年ではこうした人間中心主義的な見方に対する批判が高まりをみせている。そこで、本授業では、自然や野生動物といった要素を加味することで、日本の歴史を見直し、人間中心主義的な歴史叙述の是非を検討してみたい。

Course Objectives and Course Synopsis(授業の目的と概要)

Narrating history has long been considered a privileged activity only allowed to humans. However, in recent years, there has been increasing criticism of this anthropocentric view. Therefore, in this course, we will review Japanese history by adding elements such as nature and wildlife, and consider the pros and cons of an anthropocentric historical narrative.

本授業の到達目標は、自然や野生動物の働きかけに注目して日本の歴史を見直し、偏りのない歴史分析を行えるようになることである。

Learning Goals(学習の到達目標)

The goal of this course is for students to be able to review Japanese history by focusing on the influence of nature and wildlife, and to be able to conduct unbiased historical analysis.

本授業は、授業への参加度20％、ミニットペーパー20％、期末試験60％の割合で評価する。

Grading Plan(成績評価方法)

This course will be evaluated based on 20% participation in the class, 20% submitting of minute papers, and 60% final exam.
