By doing so, we will carefully consider how we should live and what a happy life is like. In addition, in this class, we will invite 14 professors who are active on the front lines of the humanities and social sciences to give speeches on various issues surrounding death and discuss them with the students. The class consists of two parts. In the first half, the lecturer talks, and in the second half, the lecturer answers various questions based on the questions and opinions from everyone.

なぜ死生学という学問が誕生したのかというところから始め、終末期医療、在宅での看取りといった現代医療の問題や、大震災被災地での支援、老人介護など、超高齢多死社会といわれる現代生活の多様な局面を取り上げながら、誰もがケアの担い手になり得るという現実を理解し、それぞれの立場から人間の生と死を取り巻く諸問題にどのように対処していけばよいのかを考察する。
This course describes the origins and purposes of the discipline of tanathology and covers various problems and challenges faced by modern medicine, such as an increasing demand for terminal care and home health nursing. Today, we are asked to provide care and support in multiple and varied circumstances: as volunteers in the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, as elderly care workers, etc. Ultimately, any member of our super-aged, mass death society may find him- or herself in the position of a caregiver. This course aims to prepare students for this role and give each of them an opportunity to look for his or her personal way to address a range of issues related to human life and death.
西洋美術史・美学史においては、「美」と「崇高」とらべれば、「滑稽」（コミック）と笑いはあまり高く評価されていなかった。しかし、「笑」と「美」はどういう関係をもっているのかという問題は、意外に深いです。色々な資料を参照しながら、学生の日常的な笑いの体験を出発点とし、笑い、コミック、アイロニーの美学を探検する。
In the history of Western Art and Aesthetics, in comparison to the ideals of beauty and sublime, the "comic" and laughter have received very little attention. And yet, the connection between "beauty" and "laughter" can be a surprisingly complex problem. Referring to several materials, and beginning from the daily experience of laughter of the students, we will explore the aesthetics of comic and irony.

古代から近現代にいたる西洋美術を概観しながら、美術作品を通して、それが産み出された時代について探っていきたい。一般には、時代が芸術をつくりだすといわれることが多いが、ここでは芸術にこそもっともその時代の様相があらわれているという立場から講じていきたい。受講生は、美術作品が、その時代の美学、思想、宗教がどのように社会や文化の形成にかかわって行ったのかを学ぶことになる。
1回目のイントロダクションの授業において、講義のおおよその見取り図を示す。While surveying Western art from ancient times to modern times, I would like to explore the era in which it was produced through works of art. In general, it is often said that art is created by the times, but here I would like to speak from the standpoint that art is the most representative of the times. Students will learn how works of art influenced the formation of society and culture by the aesthetics, ideas, and religions of the time.
In the first introductory class, a rough sketch of the lecture will be shown.
現代の美術や写真において、現実と虚構、自然と技術のあいだの境界線を揺らがせるような作品をしばしば「魔術的」と呼ぶことがあります。しかし、美術と魔術の相関関係はすでに古代において発見されていたものであり、初期近代にかけて美術と魔術（そして科学）は、自然を操作する人為的技芸として本質的レベルで交錯しながら発展しました。この授業では、特にイタリア・ルネサンスの時代の美術に注目して、美術と魔術の共鳴現象を具体的な作品や作家の事例の分析を通じて、現代では忘れられがちな美術の一側面を解説します。
In contemporary art and photography, we often refer to works of art that shake the boundaries between reality and fiction, nature and technology as "magical. However, the correlation between art and magic was already discovered in ancient times, and in the early modern period, art and magic (and science) developed as artificial arts that manipulate nature, intermingling at an essential level. In this class, we will focus on the Italian Renaissance in particular, and through the analysis of specific works and examples of artists, we will explain aspects of art that are often forgotten in the modern world.
