本授業では、日本列島の先史時代である所謂「縄文時代」における先史文化（縄文文化）を理解することを目的とします。この縄文文化に関する考古学研究は、これまで土器や石器等の遺物が主要な対象となり、研究が進められてきました。しかし、縄文文化を理解するためには多種多様な側面から研究する必要があります。例えば、動植物遺存体の研究からは食生活や周囲の環境、竪穴住居跡や墓などの諸施設の研究からは居住形態や社会構造などの縄文文化の一端を明らかにすることができます。そのほかには、考古学に限らず自然環境に関する研究などの他分野の様々な研究も縄文文化を理解する上では重要です。本授業では、このような縄文文化に関する多種多様な研究の歴史とその方法を学び、これまでの研究により構築されてきた縄文文化観を理解することを当初の目的とします。また、本授業では北米北西海岸部における先史文化に関するこれまでの研究を一事例とし、縄文文化の相対的な位置を理解することにより、比較文化的視点を学ぶことを最終的な目的とします。
The purpose of this class is to understand the prehistoric culture (Jomon culture) in the so-called "Jomon Period," the prehistoric period of the Japanese archipelago. Archaeological research on the Jomon culture has so far focused mainly on artifacts such as pottery and stone tools. However, in order to understand the Jomon culture, it is necessary to study it from a wide variety of perspectives. For example, the study of plant and animal remains can reveal aspects of the Jomon culture, such as their diet and surrounding environment, and the study of pit dwelling sites, tombs, and other facilities can reveal as residential patterns and social structure. In addition to archaeology, various other fields of research, such as studies of the natural environment, are also important in understanding the Jomon culture.

東北大学には研究の基礎となり成果となった、膨大な資料標本や研究機器類がある。その中には、文学研究科の考古学資料が約20万件あり、これらの資料はおよそ90年間以上にわたる調査と研究によって収集されてきたものである。
本講義では、これらの資料について解説し、これら資料に基づいて構築された学説の意義について紹介するとともに、その研究史的意義と今日的な意義について検討する。本年度は、東北大学において進められてきた縄文時代および弥生時代研究の特質について検討する。
In Tohoku University there are many collections of the various fields. Approximately 200,000 of archaeology artifacts are in those. Those archaeology artifacts has been collected by investigations for more than 90 years.
This course provides explanations of archaeology collection of Tohoku University and the academic significance of the collection. In fiscal year 2023, it's explained mainly about research works about Jomon culture and Yayoi culture advanced in Tohoku university.

この講義では、日本の考古学研究史を通して、日本考古学の独自性と特徴を研究史を通して学びます。また、近年の考古学の課題や問題点を明示し、その解決方法に関する具体的な事例を解説します。特に、先史時代を主な対象として、自然環境や社会環境と、人類行動の関係を把握します。
In this course, students will understand peculiarity and characteristics of archaeology in Japan. This course also offers an oppotunity to learn varous methods which proposed effective solution on archaeological issues in recent years. Especially, this course explains relationship between human activities and social/natural environments in Prehistory.
ユーラシア草原地帯はヨーロッパとアジアの歴史動態を繋ぐ地域として、考古学および関連分野の各国研究者に注目されている地域である。本講義では、考古学研究を行うにあたっての基礎的な知識と方法を学び、それを踏まえて草原地帯の青銅器時代から鉄器時代までの概説を行う。草原地帯に居住してきた牧畜民は、独特の物質文化を形成し、生活痕跡も少ない。また草原考古学では、研究対象地域が国境を跨ぐことも多く、こうした点では、一般的な考古学とはやや異なる面を持つ。しかしながら、日本考古学で培われてきたオーソドックスな方法でこそ明らかになる部分も相当ある。時代が変化するとはどのようなことであるのか、そして学際的研究が進む中で、考古学の基本的な手法が、世界史復元に際してどのような強みを持つかを、本講義を通じて考えてもらいたい。講義はパワーポイントに基づいて進める。
The Eurasian Steppe is a region that has attracted the attention of researchers from many countries in archaeology and related fields as a region that links the historical dynamics of Europe and Asia. In this lecture, students will learn basic knowledge and methods for conducting archaeological research, and based on this knowledge, an overview of the Bronze Age to Iron Age in the Eurasian steppe will be presented. Pastoralists who have inhabited the grassland areas have formed a unique material culture and have few traces of their lives. In addition, Steppe archaeology is somewhat different from general archaeology in that the areas studied often straddle national borders. However, there are many things that can be revealed using orthodox methods developed in Japanese archaeology. In this lecture, I would like students to think about what it means that periods change, and how the basic methods of archaeology can be used to reconstruct world history in the midst of interdisciplinary research. The lecture will be based on a PowerPoint presentation.

In this course, the correlation between the development of archaeological cultures and the human evolution are explained. Students better understand the significance of the biological evolution of humans and cultural development by learning the advances in cognition, behaviors, cultures and societies corresponding to the human evolution.
この授業では、考古文化の発達と人類進化の関係について学ぶ。人類の各進化段階で起きた、認知、行動、文化、社会の発達について学び、人類の生物学的な進化と文化的発達の意味を理解する。
In this course, the correlation between the development of archaeological cultures and the human evolution are explained. Students better understand the significance of the biological evolution of humans and cultural development by learning the advances in cognition, behaviors, cultures and societies corresponding to the human evolution.
考古学研究の歴史と現状について、各自の関心領域を中心にまとめて発表し、相互の討論を通じて理解を深める。各時代の研究における、型式学と技術、材質研究、編年と地域性、生産と流通、文化変化、環境と生業活動、社会と集団、葬制、集落論など、具体的に課題を選択し、詳細な文献目録を作成し、現在の問題点を的確に把握し、今後の各自の研究指針を追究する。
Students are introduced to the method and theory of archaeological research through ckass presentation and discussion.
概説的英語文献を通読することによって、ユーラシア大陸における広い地域を対象とした考古学に関する一般的知識や歴史モデルの立て方を学ぶ。近年、世界各地の歴史的関連が注目され、東アジアやユーラシアという範囲を対象とした研究が盛んである。陸続と発見される膨大な資料や、関連分野からの多様な分析手法など、新しい研究動向を押さえておくことは重要であるが、そうした中でも一貫して解明すべき課題は何であるのかに注目しながら、本講読を進めたい。
By reading through the overview English-language textbook, students will learn general knowledge about the archaeology of large areas of Eurasia and how to formulate a historical model. In recent years, historical connections between different parts of the world have been attracting attention, and studies of East Asia and Eurasia as a whole have been flourishing. While it is important to keep abreast of new research trends, such as the vast amount of material continuously being discovered and the variety of analytical methods used in related fields, we would like to proceed with this course with attention to the issues that need to be consistently clarified.
