Course Title (授業題目)

Introduction to Eurasian Archaeology

授業の目的と概要

　概説的英語文献を通読することによって、ユーラシア大陸における広い地域を対象とした考古学に関する一般的知識や歴史モデルの立て方を学ぶ。近年、世界各地の歴史的関連が注目され、東アジアやユーラシアという範囲を対象とした研究が盛んである。陸続と発見される膨大な資料や、関連分野からの多様な分析手法など、新しい研究動向を押さえておくことは重要であるが、そうした中でも一貫して解明すべき課題は何であるのかに注目しながら、本講読を進めたい。

Course Objectives and Course Synopsis(授業の目的と概要)

　By reading through the overview English-language textbook, students will learn general knowledge about the archaeology of large areas of Eurasia and how to formulate a historical model. In recent years, historical connections between different parts of the world have been attracting attention, and studies of East Asia and Eurasia as a whole have been flourishing. While it is important to keep abreast of new research trends, such as the vast amount of material continuously being discovered and the variety of analytical methods used in related fields, we would like to proceed with this course with attention to the issues that need to be consistently clarified.

（１）考古学に関する英語文献を理解・翻訳できる。（２）ユーラシア考古学の基礎的な用語や問題を理解できる。（３）自らの専門あるいは関心のある分野（地域・時代）における社会像や課題と、本文献の内容を対比できる。

Learning Goals(学習の到達目標)

The aim of this lecture is that students understand (1) (and translate) the English textbook on archaeology, (2) basic terms and issues in Eurasian archaeology. And it would be better if students can compare the contents of this text with social images and issues in the field (region/period) in which they are interested (3).
