Students will learn basic knowledge of animal development, in particular its embryogenesis, by going through the process of how development starts with a single cell of fertilized eggs and generate a variety of cell types and morphologies. They will also learn basic research strategy to understand the developmental processes.

(Purpose) To understand the mechanism of morphogenesis, morphological evolution, and organ regeneration in animals.
(Abstract) It is outlined how various organs that compose animal body are constructed particularly especially in vertebrates, and how diversity of vertebrate morphology is established and evolved. We will also outline what are stem cells, which are necessary for organ regeneration, and how to build organs from stem cells, as well as regenerative medicine.
1) Students will understand the concept of reproductive biology mainly for mammals, and can deepen their understanding of the animal reproduction technologies for livestock breeding and gene modification.
2) Students will understand the origin and characteristics of livestock breeds in Japan and the world, and can deepen their understanding of the animal breeding technologies accounting for the characteristics.
Essentially, one should be able to freely choose aspects of their sexuality (physical sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression, etc.) and reproductive decisions (whether or not to have children, how and when to have them, and how to child-raising) without being threatened by others. However, personal decisions regarding sexuality and reproduction often are affected by social norms, such as gender roles, leading to numerous challenges.
This class aims to propose methods (ideas) for individuals with diverse sexualities to live happily and realize their plans for reproduction (pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare). Through this experience, students will become aware of unconscious biases related to their own sexuality and reproduction, and learn ways of thinking and what is interesting about materializing solutions that lead to a better life.
In this course, students will understand the relationship between ontogeny and biological evolution, and the adaptive trait, by learning the mechanisms of ontogeny that drives the evolution of living organisms. In particular, the course will give lectures on individual dynamics that generate interspecific differences and diversity of traits inherent in species, such as morphology, mainly on the contents of genetics, developmental biology, cell biology and genome science.
