昨今の医療を取り巻く環境は、少子高齢化時代を迎えて、急速な医療資源の減少に直面している。医療資源である医療費、特にその大きな比率を占める医薬品費の効率的運用は、国是とまでなっており、急性期医療の入院を対象に2003年から診断群分類包括評価（DPC/PDPS）が大学病院などの特定機能病院に導入され、現在では高度な薬物治療を行う急性期病床の半分以上を占める。しかし、患者取り違えの医療事故に端を発した医療安全を含めた医療の質の向上もまた同時に、医療現場は求められている。医薬品においても例外ではなく、医薬品適正使用は勿論、医療安全、感染対策、ハイリスク薬対策、治験、医療経営まで、幅広い対応が必要不可欠となる。
臨床調剤学では、主に病院薬剤部内で行なわれる、（狭義の）調剤、薬品管理等の基本的な業務を紹介するとともに、薬剤管理指導業務(服薬指導を含む)などのファーマシューティカルケアに基づいた業務、また、2012年診療報酬改定により導入された「病棟薬剤業務実施加算」とその業務の概要、さらには発展的な臨床研究業務や病院経営を含む病院管理業務まで、大学病院薬剤部等における実例を挙げながら学習する。

医療や健康保険事業に参画し次世代を切り開いていけるようになるために、医療薬学病院実習・医療薬学薬局実習に先立って、大学内で、調剤および製剤、服薬指導など薬剤師職務の基礎となる知識・技能・態度を修得する。
医療薬学演習２（OSCE演習）とOSCEを挟んで、前半を基本実習、後半を発展実習とする。主に薬学教育モデル・コアカリキュラム*に準じて行い、発展実習では本学独自の内容を加えて行なう。

医療情報には、１）疾病に関する医学的な知識や医薬品に関する情報、２）診療に関する患者個人の情報、３）診療所、病院などの医療施設固有の情報がある。情報化社会である現在では、医療情報の果たす役割はきわめて重要であり、それらを医療機関内のみならず地域で連携し共有しつつ、患者、医療スタッフ双方が適切に活用することにより、地域包括ケアシステムの充実と医療の質向上が期待できる。薬剤師が、それぞれの情報源から適切な形で情報を取り出し、加工して必要な受け手に提供することで患者毎に最適な薬物療法を実施し、患者のQOLを向上することができる。本講義では、様々な場面における薬剤業務を通して、医療情報に関する基本的知識を習得し、それらを活用するための方法や、院内のみならず地域の医療スタッフへの情報提供の仕組みについても学ぶ。

医療薬学病院実習は、「薬学教育モデル・コアカリキュラム」に準拠して、病院実習導入、調剤・無菌調製（内・外用剤の調剤、注射剤セット調剤、注射剤無菌調製等）、DI業務、薬品管理業務、病棟業務の実践、一般病棟における病棟業務（チーム医療、急性期医療）、がん化学療法（レジメンチェック、抗がん薬調製）などを体験し、以下の内容（改訂コアカリ小項目）を修得する。また、当該実習施設で特徴的な業務に関する内容などを受講・見学・体験する機会（選択実習）がある。
