Beyond the importance of the immune reaction as the defense system against microbes, the essential concept of Immunology is the recognition of the self and non-self. With tremendous studies on the mechanism of self and non-self recognition, and repertoire making of immunoglobulins, Immunology has given a great contribution on Biology. This course provides students the basic knowledge and deeper understanding of immune system.
The history of humans can be recognized as a battle with infectious diseases from a medical viewpoint. We always have a challenge from pathogenic agents, such as bacteria and viruses. However, the pathogens does not usually cause infections because healthy peaple has the immune system. In this lecture, princples of the animal immune responses including innate and adaptive immunity are discussed.

It is a well-known fact that Japan’s population is aging faster than any other country in the world, and the need for aging research is becoming greater each day. In order to maintain a healthy society, this course provides students with basic and advanced knowledge of aging research to control age-related diseases.
