The Brain organize our body movements, development, cognition, creativity and so on. Such brain function is enabled by a network of enormous neurons and glias functioning as a system.
To introduce the basal mechanism of how such system develops and functions,
this course covers:
Basic introduction to the neuroscience
Cellular mechanism of brain.
Molecular mechanism of neuronal spike and synaptic transmission.
Anatomical structure of brain.
Development of nervous system
Learning and memory.
Various sensory stimuli from inside and/or outside the human body are transmitted to spinal cord and/or brain (central nervous system, CNS). Input information are calculated in CNS and then changed into the output information to exercise skeletal muscles and control functions of visceral organs. A neuron is a unit for performing arithmetic processing. Neurons make cell populations such as nuclei or layers histologically/anatomically, and those neuronal cell populations create functional networks with each other through local neuronal circuits and fiber connections between cell populations.
The names of structures in brain and spinal cord and their fiber communication and function are explained in lectures. Observation of structures in brain (three dimensional arrangement of neuronal population, their neuronal fiber connections, blood vessels, and membrane tissues) is carried out in practical training. The aims of this class are acquiring anatomical knowledge about CNS and understanding the structure and function of CNS.
This course aims to help students with their understanding about human neuron systems and about neural mechanisms underlying human cognitive functions such as learning, memory and emotion.
In this lecture, several topics will be introduced from basic knowledge to the latest findings in the field of neuroscience and psychology, which focus on the "brain" that is deeply involved in human abilities and mind. This field is an interdisciplinary frontier area where neuroscience, psychology, biology, medicine, engineering, physics, and other disciplines are coming together to elucidate it, and it is expected to have a wide range of applications. In this course, students will learn about the use of internal resources (information processing mechanisms, empirical knowledge, innate constraints) and external resources (situations, others) in higher-order human cognition, such as memory, reasoning, problem solving, and decision making, and the interaction between them. Deepen the understanding of "human knowledge" and "mind" and their individual differences.
