During the course, students will learn about challenges pertaining to urban societies of the world from geographical and topographical perspectives. The topics include such issues as urbanization, redevelopment, sustainability, natural disaster and globalization.
経済史学は、異なる地域の経済発展過程を比較する視点を内包している。アダム・スミスやF・ブローデル、D・ノースといった著名な学者らは、優れた比較経済史の論者としても知られている。比較の視点は、後発工業国の経済発展の分析や、先進国間の歴史的な違いを探究する際にも、その効果を発揮する。例えば、どの国でも都市は最も進んだ経済活動の中心地であるが、都市化の過程は国によって異なっている。そのため、都市の比較史を通じて、経済を支える固有の制度や社会的価値観を明らかにすることが可能になる。本講義では、こうした比較史の利点を最大限活用し、長期の西欧経済史について概説を行う。受講者は、自国の経済との類似点・相違点についての理解を深め、社会的な質の観点から経済力を相対的に評価する能力を身に付けることが期待される。
本講義では、偏った経済学的思考に陥らない"pluralist economics"の精神を尊重しつつ、欧米と同じ自由市場経済体制下にある日本経済の行く末を見据える上で欠かせない基礎的知識の習得を目指す。

Approximately 100 years behind the developed country of Britain, the late-industrializing country of Japan also experienced its first industrial revolution in Asia, thereby joining the ranks of developed countries by the early 20th century. In addition to the ‘first industrialized country’ in the region, there are striking similarities in the economic histories of Britain and Japan. For instance, just as the Japanese economy prospered from cultural exchanges with Western countries, the British economy was also supported by its interactions with Asian countries. The point at which the economy improved during the run-up to the industrial revolution can also be said to be a common feature between the two countries.
The purpose of finding similarities in the different economies is ultimately to highlight their ‘differences’. According to the latest research, it has become clear that a typical example separating the history of the two countries lies in the process of urbanisation leading to a modern economy. Towns and cities serve as vibrant economic hubs that laid the groundwork for contemporary society. The disparities in their development hint at a potentially insurmountable divide between the fundamental political and social values bolstering seemingly identical advanced economies. This lecture series will delve into an examination of the significant historical differences between the two leading economies, respectively representing the West and the East.
都市・地域における経済活動の空間的分布を分析する学問分野として地域科学(Regional Science)がある。経済学・都市計画・地理学等を基盤とする学際領域であるが，そこでの空間の捉え方は，「国」「地域」等の離散的な点としての扱いと，連続的な平面としての扱いに大別される。本科目では，後者のアプローチに重点を置きながら、地域科学における重要な話題について網羅的に解説する。はじめに中心地理論とvonThünen の農業国モデル等の古典モデルに触れた後，Alonso 型単一中心モデルを紹介する。また、当該分野における様々なテーマについて、古典的から現代的なものまで、理論・実証の双方の視点から幅広く紹介する。
本年度において、本講義は対面で実施する。ただし、一部の講義はビデオなどのオンデマンド資料配布によって代替する可能性がある

目的：都市空間をコントロール及びマネージメントするための計画理論、技術と、その実現手段としての社会的制度について、それらの相互関係も含めて理解すること。
概要：我が国と諸外国における都市計画に関する歴史や計画理論について概説した上で、都市計画の立案のための計画技術や計画制度について講義する。
達成目標等：我が国及び諸外国の都市計画制度の概要やその相対的特質を理解した上で、計画策定技術の基礎を習得すること。
授業の方法：対面実施だが、Google Classroom等を用いる。

The course is intended to provide broad introduction to the field of spatial planning. The theories and techniques for control and management of urban and rural area in Japan and foreign countries will be given.
Lectures will be conducted in person, but Google Classroom will also be used.
本授業では、地球上に広がる様々な自然環境と人間活動の諸相を概観し、地理学的視点について学ぶ。自然地理学と人文地理学はそれぞれ自然と人間を主な対象としつつ、空間的な視点や地図、地理情報技術の利活用といった共通の方法論を用いて、多様な自然と人間の諸相、およびそれらの相互作用関係を明らかにする学問である。本授業では前半を人文地理学、後半を自然地理学とする。人文地理学では、都市の盛衰と地域格差、健康や犯罪の地域差、そして各種の地図利用について議論する。自然地理学では、過去から現在に至る地形と気候の形成過程およびそれらの原理の理解を通して、自然環境と人間活動の関係性について議論する。
This course provides an overview of various aspects of the natural environment and human activities on the earth, to help students learn about geographical perspective. Physical geography and human geography are disciplines that focus on nature and human beings, respectively, and use common methodologies such as spatial perspectives, maps, and the use of geographic information technology to clarify the various natural and human phenomena and their interactions. The first half of this course is about human geography and the second half is about physical geography. In the human geography part, we will discuss the rise and fall of cities and regional disparities, regional differences in health and crime, and various types of map use. In the physical geography part, we will discuss the relationship between the natural environment and human activities based on an understanding of the formation processes and mechanisms of topography and climate from the past to the present.
地理学が成立したプロセスと地理学の諸理論を習得するとともに、都市や集落の成立、産業の立地や地域との関係、日本を含む世界のの地域性などを題材にして、人間社会と環境との関係をを地理学の立場から理解する。
Students of this class learn a process and the geographical theories. On the basis of it, human society and local environment are understood from a geographical viewpoint.
