This course through the reading of works to help students understand the characteristics of the Tanci（弾詞）.
In this class we will read the short novel Cranford (1853) by Elizabeth Gaskell. This is a comic description of life in small town in Victorian England yet is also shows us a lot about changing ideas and contexts of 19th century Britain (the Victorian period). Therefore, during the class we will study the many aspects of Victorian culture and society that are mentioned in the novel: the role of women and men; the English class system; the railways and the industrial revolution; the countryside and the city; the impact of the British Empire and globalization.
この授業では、エリザベス・ガスケルの短編小説『クランフォード』（1853年）を読みます。この小説は、ヴィクトリア朝イギリスの小さな町の生活をコミカルに描いたものですが、19世紀イギリス（ヴィクトリア朝時代）の考え方や背景の変化についても多くのことを教えてくれます。そこで授業では、この小説に登場するヴィクトリア朝の文化や社会の様々な側面、つまり女性と男性の役割、イギリスの階級制度、鉄道と産業革命、田舎と都会、大英帝国の影響とグローバリゼーションについて学ぶ。
日本近世文学の全容と特質を視野に収めながら、特に雅文学を主たる対象としてその展開の種々相と達成を考える。和本（モノ）、翻字や注釈などの基本的な手続きを確認しながら、ジャンルの関係性にも配慮しつつ、江戸に即して実証的に解析する研究方法を学ぶ。基礎と応用を自在に往還して最新の近世文学研究を追跡し、文学とは何か/古典とは何かということを皆さんと一緒に考え、現代に生きる私たちにとってどんな意味があるのかをも探りたい。
Considering the entirety and characteristics of Japanese early modern literature, with a focus on the field of refined literature, students will explore the various aspects and achievements of its development. While solidifying foundational knowledge about Japanese books (as objects) and mastering the basic processes of transliteration and annotations, students delve into exploring relationships with other genres and examining the distinctive characteristics of the Edo period. Throughout this process, they acquire research methods that incorporate empirical analysis. We freely traverse between the fundamentals and applications, tracking the latest research in early modern literature. Together, we contemplate what literature/classics are. We also want to explore what significance that holds for us living in the present day.

作品読解を通して中国古典文学の基礎的な知識を学ぶとともに、原文の読解力、分析し鑑賞する力の向上を目指します。
授業は出席者による発表と質疑応答によって進めます。
前期は、主に北宋詞を読みます。

美術史とは歴史研究における方法のひとつで、美術作品を資料として分析し、どのような時代背景のもと、どのような意識に基づき、なぜ制作されたのか、各時代の人間の営為や精神を見つめることを目的とする学問である。一見、入口としてハードルは低そうに見えるが、美術作品はいわば歴史の「上澄み」であり、その下を支える思想、哲学、宗教、文学などは多様で複雑である。
本講は前期に引き続き、東アジアにおける文化の総決算ともいえる江戸時代に焦点を絞り、その広範な文化的背景を解きほぐしつつ、主要な美術作品の諸様相について概観していく。「絵画」のみではなく、諸工芸についても言及し、東アジアのなかの日本という観点から、中国大陸や朝鮮半島からの影響と日本の独自性についても考える。

本演習は、明治期から近年にいたる多様な小説について、〈生き物〉の表象という観点を軸に、多様な社会的・文化的なコンテクストを視野に入れて分析を行うことを目的とする。
受講者は、担当する作品についての分析の結果を資料に基づいて発表する。発表内容を踏まえた全体での討論をとおして、小説の精緻な読解を試みる。
The purpose of this exercise is to analyze various novels from the Meiji period to recent years from the viewpoint of the representation of "living things" (especially the literary representation of animals and plants) with a view to various social and cultural contexts.
Students present the results of their analysis of literary works. We try to read the novel in detail through the discussion based on the presentation.
