【対面授業】
目的：最先端の科学技術に関する情報はほぼ英語で提供されている。英語で書かれた科学技術に関する記事を題材にAcademic Englishに関する読解力を身に付け、英語論文の構成や論理の流れを理解し、多方面の科学技術に関する情報収集力を養う。
概要：新聞、雑誌、専門誌に掲載された科学・工学の思考法に関する記事、論文を読みながら、科学技術英語構文の構成や論理展開の手法について学ぶ。
達成方法等：以下の学習活動に重点を置く
（１） 複雑な英文の文法構造を正確かつ素早く分析する
（２） テキストの論理の流れを正確に把握する
（３） 辞書を十分に活用し、語彙力を高める
（４） 自然科学に関する深い知識と教養を身に付ける

This course aims to improve students’ reading comprehension of Academic English. Students will read articles on methods of scientific and engineering thinking taken from newspapers, magazines and professional journals. The course has four main goals as in the following:
(1) To develop skills to analyze the grammatical structure of a complex English sentence accurately and promptly
(2) To comprehend a logical line of reasoning in an academic article
(3) To build a strong vocabulary, making good use of dictionaries
(4) To foster deep knowledge and resourcefulness about natural science

科学と工学の分野における重要な概念を探求しながら、言語能力を高める。そのために、内容言語統合学習（CLIL）を取り入れた授業を行う。授業は日本語によるサポートを受けながら英語で行われ、科学的知識の習得とともにアカデミックな英語力とプレゼンテーション能力を伸ばす機会を提供する。また、理工系の教授を招く回も設ける。
内容および語学力について、各々の目的は次の通りである。
内容の習得： 科学と工学の基本概念を理解し、批判的思考と分析力を養う。
語学力の向上： 科学的な語彙やアカデミックな表現に重点を置きながら、英語運用能力（listening, speaking, reading, writing）を向上させる。優れたアカデミック・ライティングの基礎を学び、理工学分野で興味のあるトピックについてプレゼンテーションを行う。
This Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) course in Science and Engineering is designed to enhance students' language proficiency while exploring key concepts in the fields of science and engineering. The course is conducted in English with Japanese language support and provides students with the opportunity to develop their academic English language and presentation skills in conjunction with acquiring scientific knowledge.
Some of the classes will also include a guest science or engineering professor.
Content Mastery: Gain an understanding of some fundamental concepts in science and engineering, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills.
Language Proficiency: Develop and improve student’s English language skills, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with an emphasis on scientific vocabulary and academic language. In this course, students will also learn the fundamentals of good academic writing and give a presentation on a topic within science and engineering that interests them.
学修の 到達目標 /Goal of Study
アカデミックイングリッシュを話し言葉と書き言葉の両方で学び、以下のことができるようになる：
1) 重要な概念を分類し、定義する。
2) 手順や実験を説明する。
3) 科学的現象に関する原因と結果を説明する。
4) 数字、公式、測定法を理解する。
5) 学習した内容に基づいて意見を述べ、アイデアを共有する。
6) アカデミックな内容のリスニングとライティングを上達させる。
7) 科学・工学に関連したテーマでプレゼンテーションを行う。

Students will learn both spoken and written academic English to be able to:
1) Classify and define key concepts.
2) Describe procedures and experiments.
3) Explain cause and effect related to scientific phenomena.
4) Understand numbers, formulae, and measurements.
5) Give opinions and share ideas based on the content learned.
6) Improve their listening and writing of academic content.
7) Give a presentation on a topic related to science and engineering
8) Learn the basics of academic writing
・このコースは、科学技術に関するコンテンツや記事・論文から情報収集して英語でディスカッションできる国際的人材（グローバル人材）を目指すための実習講座です。とにかく英語を使って科学的内容についての視聴・発表・議論を通じて英語運用能力に関する経験値を上げることを目指します。英語で発表できるようになりたい方にはおススメの講座です。
・この授業は大半の回をWeb（Zoom）で実施しますが、発表がある回はできるだけ対面で実施します(＠青葉山. ※移動時間を考慮して開始時刻は若干遅らせます)。
・基本的な内容の説明は講義前半では日本語で行いますが、後半は慣れてきたら英語で説明する場合もあります。
*As a background, many international conferences and meetings have been organized. That's why this class is aiming to train undergraduate (or graduate) students to be able to give presentations and to have meaningful discussions in English.
*Most classes are organized in a web meeting style (Zoom) and most presentation classes are held at CYRIC. *Instructions and explanations on basic issues will be delivered mainly in Japanese, and later in English if possible. All participants may need basic knowledge on both Japanese and English languages.

The aim of this course is to focus and polish listening comprehension in English in an academic environment. Basic listening strategies will be taught such as skimming, scanning, note-taking, discourse markers, background knowledge and so on whilst listening to various topics in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences. Students will be required to speak up spontaneously in class, of course, in English.
