自然言語は、さまざまなレベルで構造化されている。まず、音と意味の恣意的な組み合わせである「語」、「語」と「語」の統語的な組み合わせにより作られる「句」ないし「文」、更には、その「文」と「文」のつながりにより作られる「複文」や「重文」から成る。また、「語」の内部にも、複合語や派生語のばあいには、一定の法則で支配された内部構造がある。ここで「構造」とは、統語構造、形態構造、音韻構造、概念構造のことであり、加えて、「文」の中での構成要素同士の語順の決定には「情報構造」も大きな影響を及ぼす。また、「文」の構造と意味の理解には、メタファー・メトニミーなどの多機能性に関する法則や、文法化・構文化・語彙化・イディオム化の言語変化に関係する法則も関与する。
本講義では、生成文法理論、語彙意味論、形態論、音韻論、機能文法、認知文法、歴史言語学、言語類型論などの言語学の各分野の最新の知見と成果を踏まえて、自然言語の構造の体系と、そこに見出される法則性について講述する。また、言語の形式と意味が通時的にどのように変化して来たか、その結果として、世界の言語にはどのような変異が見られるか、などの問題についても講述するとともに、演習問題にも取り組む。
前期に引き続き、自然言語で用いられている語の成り立ちを分析する形態論の入門書を読み、形態論の基本的考え方を学ぶ。
This course, which is a continuation of Introduction to Morphology I from the spring semester, provides an intensive introduction to the study of word formation known as morphology by reading a textbook showing how to find and analyze morphological data.

We will focus on the book "How the World Became Rich: The Historical Origins of Economic Growth," authored by Mark Koyama and Jared Rubin. The book shows the majority of individuals today possess considerably more wealth than their ancestors. Humanity has acquired the vast majority of its riches within the past two centuries. How did this transformation occur? What factors contributed to the world's newfound prosperity?

However, the information exchanged and relationships formed on social media often harm users and increase mutual distrust among people. Understanding this situation and considering how to deal with it are important issues for information ethics. In this class, we will read the epistemological and ethical literature on social networking in order to fulfill this objective.
