現代社会を特徴づける人間活動の1つである社会調査について、その目的と進め方（調査内容の決定、調査対象の決定、調査の実施方法、調査結果の分析方法とまとめ方）を知るとともに、その歴史と成果について学習する。個人が身の回りから様々な情報を得る場合と社会調査との違いに着目しながら、細かい技法よりも、基本的な考え方を修得することを目指す。
This course serves as an introductory course on social surveys. It helps students understand the basics of questionnaire design, sampling, interviewing, data analysis, and research ethics.
社会調査を遂行しておく上で理解しておくべき、調査目的に合った調査企画・設計の方法と、データ蒐集やデータ分析の主要な技法について理解する。基本的な考え方と同時に、現実に遭遇する具体的な問題にどう実際的に対処していくかについても把握する。
This course serves as an advanced course on social surveys. It helps students understand the practical knowledge that should be useful in planning surveys, interviewing, and analyzing survey data.
量的社会調査を実施する上で必要となるさまざまな技法を習得することを目的とする。受講生は社会調査の企画から実査、分析、報告書の作成までの一連の過程を経験する。調査は東北大学の学生を対象にして行う。「東北大学生の生活と意識」を共通のテーマとして設けた上で、受講生の関心に応じてグループを分ける。
This course offers knowledge and skills that are needed to conduct quantitative social surveys. Students experience a set of processes on social surveys, including establishing hypotheses, designing questionnaires, statistical data analysis, and writing a report. The survey will be aimed at students of Tohoku University. The main theme of the survey will be "Life and attitudes of students of Tohoku University."
コホート研究を中心とした観察研究の企画及びデータ収集、データ管理の手法について概説するとともに、いかにデータ解析につなげていくかについて解説する.
Methodology of data collection and data management in observational studies, especially for cohort studies, would be introduced. We will also introduce how to make database, which is available for data analyses.

In this course, students will learn the methodology how to prepare geological, geomorphological, and anthropogeographic field surveys and how to analysis observational data from the surveys.
看護の現場では，多様なデータが存在し，それらを収集して分析し，その分析結果に基づいて判断し，行動し，評価を行う必要がある。また根拠に基づいてこれらを行うために，研究に取り組む必要がある。この授業では，現象を数値化して測定し，それを統計的に分析して記述し，伝達するための基礎的な調査研究の過程を学習する。
Nurses need to collect and analyze various data in the field of nursing, and to make judgments, take actions, and make evaluations based on the results of these analyses. In addition, nurses need to engage in research in order to base their decisions on evidence. In this class, students will learn the basic research process for quantifying and measuring phenomena, analyzing them statistically, describing and communicating them.
社会調査に必要な統計学について学ぶ。特に、統計的推測・仮説検定の考え方や、平均・比率の差の検定・推定、分散分析、相関分析、回帰分析などの手法について理解する。
This course covers statistics that are needed to analyze social surveys. Topics include statistical inference, statistical test of means/proportions, analysis of variance, correlation, and regression.
科学研究は、人々の幸福や社会の発展に大きく貢献していますが、他方、研究やその成果が、人々を傷つけるものであったり、人びとを誤った仕方で導いたりすることもあります。そのため、研究に従事する人々（大学生を含みます）は、倫理的・手続き的に正しい仕方で研究や研究発表を行なう責任を負っています。特に、人文社会科学では、実験・質問紙調査・フィールドワーク・聞き取り調査・歴史資料・インターネット情報の収集など様々な手法で研究が行なわれるため、多様な倫理的問題に対処しなければなりません。この授業では、研究倫理と公正な研究に関する基礎を講義し、その上で、それぞれの研究手法に応じた倫理的問題とその問題への対処方法について複数教員が担当し、解説します。
In this course, the theoretical basis of research ethics and integrity, as well as ethical problems typical of various research fields of humanities and social sciences are discussed.
