本講義は、19世紀アメリカ合衆国におけるポピュリズム運動と「反乱」と呼ばれる事象との関連を解明することにより、アメリカ型人民主権の歴史的特質を把握することを目的とする。
The purpose of this lecture is to grasp the historical characteristics of American popular sovereignty by elucidating the relationship between the populist movements and the events known as "rebellions" in the 19th century United States.

In the increasingly borderless international society of today, at the same time we observe the co-existence and amalgamation of different regional cultures, social phenomena which lead to violent conflicts are also evident. In this course, which will take place in omnibus format, we will attempt to provide a general and comprehensive overview of such phenomena.
This class aims to provide an overview of the major issues and main dynamics shaping the international politics of East Asia in the early 21st century. It will cover the historical changes in the region’s international order, its main actors and the key relationships between them, as well as important themes in regional politics such as institutions and norms, economic integration and regionalism, security hot-spots, and transnational forces.
The class will consist of weekly readings, lecture by the professor, and presentations by students followed by class discussions. Students will be expected to follow international news, to participate actively in class by asking questions and giving comments when called on, and to give one presentation offering their own analysis of the readings and the theme for the week. They will also write a short paper relating to their presentation as well as a longer final paper.

The focus throughout the course will be providing students with the necessary content to understand developments in contemporary Latin American politics through the study of the different political approaches implemented by the governments of the region to promote national and regional development and challenge or insert themselves into the Global Governance architecture.
