Lecture for the early solar system evolution based on evidence derived from solar system primitive material from asteroids and comets.
"Planetary atmosphere" mentioned here refers to the entire gas that can be belonging to a planet.
The atmosphere of the terrestrial planets is spreading thinly on the surface layer.
The atmosphere of the gigantic planets is continuing inside of the planet.
The dilute atmosphere composed of atomic volatiles is extended from the surface layer of small bodies.
This course treats the fundamentals of physics and chemistry for these atmospheres of all planets in the solar system.
We extract the universal basic concept of the planetary atmospheres and also understand the specific characteristics of each planetary atmosphere.
Based on these understandings, we can first understand the criticality of our Earth's environment which we are now enjoying, and also have images of exoplanets scattered in the universe.

Human beings are promoting space exploration by utilizing space probes and space vehicles to expand habitable area in the solar system. We will give detail explanations on the space exploration along with following three accepts; i.e. scientific aspects, engineering aspects and life aspects.
As an extension of the undergraduate course "Planetary Atmospheric Physics", this course covers the common fundamentals of planetary atmospheres, the physics and chemistry behind them, and the universality and uniqueness of planetary atmospheres. The atmospheric regions covered in this course are the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, exosphere, and ionosphere. In this course, the physics and chemistry that commonly permeate planetary atmospheres will be treated from a perspective of comparative planetology, and a deep understanding of the structure, circulation, composition, and evolution of atmospheres on terrestrial planets and giant planets, and their coupling with the Sun, interplanetary space, and magnetosphere will be obtained. Then, students will be able to understand the preciousness of Earth's environment and imagine exoplanets scattered in the universe.
Energy generated in the solar system, such as planetary atmospheres, small bodies, and surrounding plasmas is emitted as the electromagnetic waves in the visible, infrared, ultraviolet and radio ranges. Remote-sensing observations of these waves are useful to understand the physical processes in/around the solar system objects. Tohoku University has produced many results by the remote-sensing of physical processes in the earth, and planetary magnetospheres, such as the measurements of aurora, planetary trace gases, and atmospheric compositions from the ground and space.
In addition, recent improvements in computer performance and the development of simulation technology bring us quantitative understanding of physical phenomena in the solar system.
In this lecture, we will learn the basics of optical, infrared, ultra-violet, radio wave and radar measurement techniques and satellites and planetary probe engineering which are essential for the earth and planetary observations. We will also learn computer simulation techniques. These techniques are necessary for further elucidation of the physical phenomena in the solar system.
