Students will develop critical reading skills necessary to study at the undergraduate and graduate level through reading academic books and articles, shinsho (non-fiction mass market paperbacks), newspapers and magazines.

目的：最先端の科学技術に関する情報はほぼ英語で提供されている。英語で書かれた科学技術に関する記事を題材にAcademic Englishに関する読解力を身に付け、英語論文の構成や論理の流れを理解し、多方面の科学技術に関する情報収集力を養う。
概要：新聞、雑誌、専門誌に掲載された科学・工学の思考法に関する記事、論文を読みながら、科学技術英語構文の構成や論理展開の手法について学ぶ。
達成方法等：以下の学習活動に重点を置く
（１） 複雑な英文の文法構造を正確かつ素早く分析する
（２） テキストの論理の流れを正確に把握する
（３） 辞書を十分に活用し、語彙力を高める

This course aims to improve students’ reading comprehension of Academic English. Students will read articles on methods of scientific and engineering thinking taken from newspapers, magazines and professional journals. The course has four main goals as in the following:
(1) To develop skills to analyze the grammatical structure of a complex English sentence accurately and promptly
(2) To comprehend a logical line of reasoning in an academic article
(3) To build a strong vocabulary, making good use of dictionaries
(4) To foster deep knowledge and resourcefulness about natural science

資源環境経済学にかかわる英文（学術論文、国際機関の報告書、雑誌記事等）を読み、翻訳を行うことで、英文読解のポイントを学びつつ、英文の内容をわかりやすく他人に伝える技術を学ぶ。
By reading and translating English sentences related to resource and environmental economics (academic papers, reports of international organizations, magazine articles, etc.), students learn skills for reading English and showing others the sentence meanings clearly.
法学や政治学についてのすぐれた論文を数多く読みながら、社会科学の方法論を学ぶ。授業自体は日本語で行うが、時間の許す範囲で日本のみならず英語圏の論文を読みたいと思っている。Learn about methods of social science by reading numerous articles on law and political science. This class itself is taught in Japanese, but we are going to read Japanese and English books and articles.
CEFR／JF日本語教育スタンダード B1-B2（日本語能力試験N2-N1程度）の学生を対象とする。実践的な読解やライティング課題を通じて、専門教育で必要とされる日本語能力を身につける。最終課題として、専門分野の文型集の作成を目指します。
B1-B2 level in the CEFR/JF Standard for Japanese-Language Education (N2-N1 in the JLPT). Through practical reading and writing assignments, students will develop Japanese language skills needed to conduct research in their fields. The final assignment is to create collection of sentence patterns in each other area of research.
本講義の目的は、考古学研究の目的と手法、概念を学び、考古学について自分なりの問題意識・視点を獲得することです。考古学研究は、対象とする時代・地域あるいは研究者によって、理論的・方法論的に多様です。そして、研究成果は一次的に報告書、そして研究を通した論文として発表されますが、報告書や論文にはそれぞれの形式が存在します。形式に沿って構造化された文章に親しむことは、調査・研究資料から正しく情報を引き出すために必要です。具体的な資料の読解を通して、考古学と論文の構造についての知識を獲得しつつ、考古学研究の多様性を認識します。こうした知識の獲得と同時に、自分なりの問題意識・視点をもち、議論できるようになることをめざします。そのため、講義時に内容を報告するとともに、全員で意見交換を行います。
The purpose of this lecture is to learn the purpose, method and concept of archaeological study and to acquire student’s own problem awareness / opinion on archaeology.

この授業の目的は、大学や大学院の学習で必要なレポートや論文を正確に、わかりやすく書けるようになることです。そのために、日本語で文章を書くときに必要な基礎的な知識、文法、表現などを学びます。また、ペアやグループで相互にコメントし、レポートをよりよくする方法も学びます。
The aim of this course is to help students acquire basic academic writing skills in Japanese. This course also furthers the development of a student’s skills in writing reports and research papers properly. In addition, students have opportunities to practice peer review and improve their reports.
