本講義では、日本と世界の主要な宗教文化をとりあげてその歴史、教え、儀礼などを概説し、グローバル化した現代社会を生きるために必要な基礎的知識と、異なる宗教の人々と交流するためのリテラシーの涵養をはかる。
In this course, students will think about the history, teachings, and rituals of the major religious cultures of Japan and the world. We will gain the basic knowledge necessary to live in today's globalized society, and improve literacy to interact with people of different religions.
社会福祉の源流として、キリスト教など諸宗教の慈善活動がある。これらの慈善活動そのものは意義深いものであるが、時代性による限界もあって、人権意識や平等性に課題があった。そのような前近代的課題を克服することで、個人の自由を前提とした「社会福祉」が発展した。このような経緯を踏まえて、日本での仏教社会福祉史、バングラデシュの仏教徒と社会福祉活動、⻑岡⻄病院ビハーラ病棟、東日本大震災後の被災者支援活動などを例に、宗教と社会福祉の関係性について考察し、超高齢多死社会となる日本社会において、宗教が果たし得る役割について検討する。
The source of social welfare is the charity activities of various religions, including Christianity. Although these charity activities themselves are significant, they are limited by the times, and there are issues with human rights awareness and equality. By overcoming such pre-modern challenges, "social welfare" based on individual freedom developed. Based on this background, we will consider the relationship between religion and social welfare, using examples such as the history of Buddhist social welfare in Japan, Buddhists and social welfare activities in Bangladesh, the Vihara Ward of Nagaoka Nishi Hospital, and support activities for victims after the Great East Japan Earthquake, and so on. We will examine the role of religion in Japanese society, which is becoming a super-aging death-ridden society.
本講義では、神仏習合の視点からみた東北地方の宗教人類学的考察、日本に関する観光の社会史と観光人類学的考察、日本の宗教的世界観に対する構築主義的視点の導入、という３つのテーマから授業を進める。
In this lecture, the class will focus on three themes: an anthropological examination of religion in the Tohoku region from the perspective of syncretism of Shintoism and Buddhism; a social history of tourism and an anthropological examination of tourism with regard to Japan; and an introduction to a constructionist perspective on the Japanese religious worldview.
①日本の宗教実践（特に葬送墓制、死別、巡礼、パワースポットブームなど）を対象とした英語論文を講読する。②外国人研究者が日本の宗教をどのようにとらえ、どのような点に注目しているかを理解する。③国内の研究動向との関連をディスカッションする。
(1) read English-language articles on Japanese religious practices (funeral and grave systems, bereavement, pilgrimage, power spot boom, etc.) (2) understand how foreign researchers view Japanese religions and what points they focus on (3) discuss the relationship with research trends in Japan
ボーダーレス化が進展している現代の国際社会においては、各地域文化が共存・融合する一方で、激しい衝突を起こす社会的現象がますます顕著になっている。このような現象を理解するために、本授業においては世界各地の地域文化について、オムニバス方式で基礎的かつ包括的な講義をおこなう。
In the increasingly borderless international society of today, at the same time we observe the co-existence and amalgamation of different regional cultures, social phenomena which lead to violent conflicts are also evident. In this course, which will take place in omnibus format, we will attempt to provide a general and comprehensive overview of such phenomena.

古代からの日本美術の歴史を概観すれば、多くは信仰との関わりの中から生まれてきたことがわかる。不可視の世界を構想する宗教にとってそれを視覚化する美術はなくてはならないものだからだ。この講義では、日本において豊かに生み出された宗教美術のうち、特に彫刻を中心に論じる。人間の精神が生み出した造形を紹介することを通して、宗教と美術の本質的な関係を説明する。
If you overview the history of Japanese art from ancient times, you can see that many arts were born out of relationships with faith. Because religions that envision an invisible world need arts that visualizes it. In this course, among the religious arts created in Japan, I focus on sculptures in particular. I explain the essential relationship between religion and art through introducing the arts that the human spirit created.
この講義では、日本の宗教美術、特に彫刻について信仰との関わりから論じる。不可視の世界を構想する宗教にとって美術は重要な役割を持っている。宗教美術を理解することは、人間の精神世界に近づくことを可能にするのだ。前期は、飛鳥時代から鎌倉時代までの仏教的世界観を概観しながら、その世界観に基づく美術を時代順に論じていく。
In this course I discuss religious arts in East Asia, especially sculptures from the relationship with faith. Art has an important role for religion that envisages invisible world. Understanding religious art makes it possible to approach human spiritual world. In the first semester classes, I will provide an overview of the Buddhist worldview from the Asuka period to the Kamakura period, and discuss art based on that worldview in chronological order.
