The objectives of the lecture on ultrasound technologies are to understand basic knowledge of sound and ultrasound and to understand the architecture of clinical ultrasound imaging machines. Next, clinical ultrasound images are presented in comparison with X-ray CT, MRI, RI or PET. Moreover, recent ultrasound technologies are introduced.
Because ultrasound imaging is easy to handle compared with large apparatus such as CT, it helps understanding general medical imaging in the process of parametric imaging.

Focusing mainly on methods using X-rays and ultrasonic waves for the methods of measurements and evaluations needed for sophisticated and safe uses of metals, piezoelectric materials, nano materials, polymers, composite materials, and devices and structural elements composed by them, their principle and application technology are described. To deepen the understanding on X-ray diffraction/scattering/spectroscopy/imaging and ultrasonic wave propagation and its applications for measurements, the following lectures will be given:
Prof. Momose
X-rays play important roll in various material evaluations. In this lecture part, starting from fundamental subjects of X-rays, we overview X-ray measurement technology. Furthermore, we study the details on X-ray non-destructive testing based on X-ray radiography and X-ray computed tomography (CT). Finally, the state-of-art X-ray imaging technology will be introduced.
Prof. Ohara
Ultrasonic waves, which propagate in materials as elastic waves, are widely used in industry as a non-destructive inspection method. This lecture will provide an overview of the fundamentals of ultrasonic wave propagation and various ultrasonic measurement methods. State-of-the-art ultrasonic measurement techniques, including imaging, will also be introduced.
