地理学の研究手法においてフィールドワークはことさら重要視されている。現地に実際に赴き，現地の声や情報を収集することは，その場所や土地を理解する上で極めて重要な研究活動であろう。他方，その労力に見合う研究成果が得られたかは現地でデータを収集する段階あるいはデータを分析する段階にならないと判断できないこともあり，フィールドワークの難しさも同時に存在する。本講義では，地理学におけるフィールドワークについて多面的に学ぶ。また，フィールドワークの重要性が声高に叫ばれる一方，フィールドワークの手法に関わる議論がなおざりにされていないだろうか。本講義では，地理学以外の学問分野からの視点も紹介しながら，フィールドワークに関する理解を深めたい。
Fieldwork is one of the most important research methods in geography. Visiting a place and collecting local voices and data is an extremely important research activity for understanding the place and land. On the other hand, fieldwork is also difficult because it is not always possible to determine whether the research results are sufficient for the effort of fieldwork until the stage of collecting or analyzing data in the field. In this lecture, we will learn about fieldwork in geography from various aspects. While the importance of fieldwork has been emphasized, the discussion on the methods of fieldwork has been overlooked. We will deepen our understanding of fieldwork by introducing perspectives from other academic disciplines.

高校の新しい必履修科目「地理総合」では、第１章で地理情報システム(GIS)が紹介され、その後の国際理解や国際協力および地域調査の教育において地理情報システムを活用することが求められている。この授業ではまず、地理情報市システムとその学問的基盤である地理情報科学について概説したのち、学校教育において地理情報をどうように活用すべきかを考察する。
A new compulsory subject in high school "Comprehensive Geography" introduces Geographical Information System (GIS) and expects to utilze GIS in subsequent chapters dealing with International understanding and cooperation, and in regional reseach. This lecture first provides the overview of what are GIS and their academic underpinning, the Geographical Information Science, and then discuss how GIS can be utilzed in geography education.

本授業では、地球上に広がる様々な自然環境と人間活動の諸相を概観し、地理学的視点について学ぶ。自然地理学と人文地理学はそれぞれ自然と人間を主な対象としつつ、空間的な視点や地図、地理情報技術の利活用といった共通の方法論を用いて、多様な自然と人間の諸相、およびそれらの相互作用関係を明らかにする学問である。本授業では前半を人文地理学、後半を自然地理学とする。人文地理学では、都市の盛衰と地域格差、健康や犯罪の地域差、そして各種の地図利用について議論する。自然地理学では、過去から現在に至る地形と気候の形成過程およびそれらの原理の理解を通して、自然環境と人間活動の関係性について議論する。
This course provides an overview of various aspects of the natural environment and human activities on the earth, to help students learn about geographical perspective. Physical geography and human geography are disciplines that focus on nature and human beings, respectively, and use common methodologies such as spatial perspectives, maps, and the use of geographic information technology to clarify the various natural and human phenomena and their interactions. The first half of this course is about human geography and the second half is about physical geography. In the human geography part, we will discuss the rise and fall of cities and regional disparities, regional differences in health and crime, and various types of map use. In the physical geography part, we will discuss the relationship between the natural environment and human activities based on an understanding of the formation processes and mechanisms of topography and climate from the past to the present.

環境・人間関係論に関連して医学・健康地理学と呼ばれる研究領域がある。それは、人文地理学の様々な副次的研究領域を基礎としながら、環境疫学や社会疫学などと密接な関わりをもって発展してきた。本授業では、この医学・健康地理学を糸口に、地理的な分布・環境と関連する人文地理学とそれに関連する諸理論、社会調査法や地理的統計分析を含む方法論について導入をはかる。
Focusing on human-environmental relationship in the field of human geography, studies of medical and health geographies have evolved with various other disciplines including environmental and social epidemiology. The aim of this course is to introduce the fundamental concepts and methodologies including social surveys and statistical analysis of human geography by giving lectures on selected topics on medical and health geographies with their related issues in other domains of human geography.
