本講義では，種々の環境問題や防・減災など，人間圏が抱える諸問題に対する地理学的ソリューションを導くに足る知識と考察力を身に付けることを目的とし，湿潤変動帯の山地流域をターゲットに，気圏・水圏・地圏・生物圏の境界域（クリティカルゾーン）を構成する各要素の空間的連結性と相互作用性およびそれらの時間発展がつくりだすシステムの自然地理学的理解を概説する．
The purpose of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and ability to consider geographical solutions for various environmental issues in the humanosphere, such as climate change adaptation and prevention and/or mitigation of disasters, based on the physical-geographic understanding of the earth's critical zone systems created by the spatial connectivity and temporal evolution of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere, and biosphere.

本講義は、地球の地質・地形の変動を理解するのが目的である。その中で沈み込み帯をもつ日本列島は、最も変動の激しい地域である。そこでは、地震，火山，断層運動だけでなく、地すべりなどが生じ、地質や地形が大きく変動している。本講義は、この変動する日本列島を題材に、その変動のメカニズムや地質・地形に対する影響に関して考える。
The Japan Island is characterized by the tectonic activities related with subduction zone, volcanos, faults and landslides. The main purpose of this course is to review basic knowledge and understand the significance of tectonic factors and to consider their influence for geology and geography.
