This course provides students with basic knowledge on insect physiology and ecology such as influence of light on insects, defensive strategies against predators, internal morphology (i.e. digestive/excretory system, respiratory system, circulatory system and nervous system), host selection mechanisms, mating behaviors, ecdysis/metamorphosis, and diapause.

“Light” is essential to our human life. This lecture covers optics, photochemistry, interaction of light and materials, organic molecules and polymers related to light from the standpoint of Materials Chemistry. Students deepen their understanding of the principles and applications of photo-functional materials close to our information technology society.
Nearly 90% of angiosperms are believed to rely on animals (primarily insects) for pollination. Consequently, the relationship between flowers and insects is often regarded as one of the most crucial interspecies interactions within ecosystems. This lecture will focus on the relationship between flowers and insects to enhance understanding of the principles governing evolution, interspecies interactions, and community assembly.
