There is a rising interest for the application of molecules into 'material', which includes the electronic applications like as organic solar cells. Further the application into the advanced quantum information process (QIP) using the spin degree of freedom of the molecules. In order to understand these phenomena, it is critical to master the physical chemistry of the mechanism of the conductance through the molecule. We will discuss the how the precise measurement and control of the molecule spin contributes to the progress of QIP. In the lecture we will learn the transfer of the electron and spin through molecule, how to encode/decode spin information of the molecule, and the basics of the algorithm of the QIP.

Quantum chemistry is an important subject as a basis of all fields of modern chemistry. In this lecture series the students learn firstly the approximation methods for solving Schrodinger equations, variational method and perturbation theory, based on the knowledge of the lectures on "Quantum Chemistry I" last semester. Next they applied Hartree-Fock approximation to multi-electron atoms and understand Slater determinant, electron spin, multiplet electron structures of atoms, and so on. Finally, they learn the nature of the chemical bonds and how the molecular structures are determined, by applying molecular orbital theory to diatomic and polyatomic molecules. Through the series of lectures students develop the fundamental knowledge for applying quantum chemistry to various problems in chemistry.

Chemistry is the study of materials. Understanding the structure and properties of atoms and molecules, which are the basic units that make up materials, will lead to the development of new medicines and the discovery of chemical reactions, in addition to understanding the nature of the materials themselves. In this class, we will begin with an explanation of the structure of atoms and explain how chemical bonds are formed in simple molecules.

This course provides a basic understanding of electron correlation in solids, focusing on magnetism. The lecture explains the subject from both localized and itinerant perspectives. Specific material groups such as d-electron and f-electron systems are discussed, with d-electron systems viewed from a localized perspective and f-electron systems from an itinerant perspective. This approach enhances the understanding of these strongly correlated electron systems.
