Due to significant expansion of the geophysics in the last century, the space plasma physics became to be one of the major scientific interest of our planet. This lecture on the space plasma physics introduces basic physical processes of the space plasma surrounding the Earth, planets, satellites and also the sun, and various measurement and evaluation methods for plasma waves, particles and electro-magnetic fields by using spacecraft and remote sensing from the ground. In addition, this lecture also introduces some techniques for exploration inside planets and satellites using electromagnetic waves and fields.

As an extension of the undergraduate class "Ionospheric and Magnetospheric Physics", students learn fundamental physics to understand structures of ionospheres and magnetospheres of each planet which has individual characteristics, their temporal/spatial dynamical processes affected by interactions of solar UV radiations and/or solar wind plasmas, and also learn general characteristics of planetary radio emissions with their generation processes.

This lecture introduces basic physics and related recent topics in solid earth physics, atmospheric and oceanic sciences, and planetary and space physics to understand the background and perspective of geophysics. This lecture is organized by three research areas of geophysics given by faculty members of the Department of Geophysics.
