Topics in Applied Mathematics
自然や社会に現れる様々な現象を数学の方法論を用いて明らかにし、それらの背後に潜む数理的構造を理解することを目標とする。扱う対象は材料科学から生命科学、情報科学まで多岐にわたるが、それらを力学系的手法、トポロジー的手法、微分方程式論、数値シミュレーションを用いつつ、具体的例を用いてその概要を習得することを目指す。
This course aims at clarifying various phenomena in natural and social sciences through mathematical approaches and understanding the mathematical structures behind them. Wide varieties of mathematical approaches such as topology, differential equations, numerical simulations, are shown in this course with examples.
現象のモデリングの基本的手法を学び、力学系的手法、トポロジー的手法、微分方程式論を具体的例に適用することで、どのような数理的構造とそのダイナミクスが明らかにされるかの概要を習得することを目標とする。
Students learn about several mathematical modeling techniques such as dynamical systems, topological analysis, differential equations, which reveal mathematical structures and their dynamics existing in the real-world.
東北大学材料科学高等研究所(AIMR)数学連携グループ所属の数名の研究者によるリレー講義で実施する。
講師はいずれも数理科学を他の科学技術分野に応用する研究を進めており、それぞれの研究対象からの実例と共に、そこで用いられている数学的考え方や技法を講義していく。
取り上げる題目は下記を予定している。

「数理モデリングと数値シミュレーション」
In this course, several researchers from Mathematical Science Group at Advanced Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University, introduce basic ideas and current states of their specialized fields.
