History of Science II
After Industrial Revolution, it is said the relationship of science and technique greatly changed. Economical, social, cultural significance of scientific research also changed. Science has been regarded as the cause of gap between the rich and the poor, environmental destruction, misery of war by some people. In this lecture, it is argued how science and technique will be for human peace and welfare. For this purpose, the history of science from the period of Industrial Revolution to the 20th century is studied.
After the industrial revolution, the connection between science and society and economy became stronger. These relationships are easy to understand by knowing the relationship between science and technique. It is our goal to find out what kind of age situation gave the features to technique and to understand the features of the historical development of natural science.

It is required to read books or to watch videos which are concerned with this lecture.

In Japan, many high school students think that study of history means memorizing historical facts. But the purpose of this lecture is to think about the relationship of historical facts and present facts. Lecturer wishes the students who want to attend this lecture will find something which having relation to modern issues from history of science.
