Course Title (授業題目)

Introduction to phonology II

授業の目的と概要

この授業を通して、英語と日本語の母語話者が示す超分節現象で観察される規則に焦点を当て、音声が、言語（文法）構造を構成している単位としてどのように機能しているかを学ぶ。

Course Objectives and Course Synopsis(授業の目的と概要)

In this course, students will study how speech sounds function as units of linguistic (grammatical) structure, focusing on suprasegmental patterns in native-speaker spoken English and Japanese.

学習の到達目標

この授業を通して、諸言語話者の (i)母語の音節構造，(ii) 音現象を制御する規則，(iii)文法理論における音韻知識の位置づけ、を説明できるようになる。

Learning Goals(学習の到達目標)

After completing this course, students will be able to explain (i) what language speakers know about their native syllable structure, (ii) some of the rules controlling sound patterns in a particular language, and (iii) where phonological knowledge belongs in a general theory of grammar.

第13回: 接辞化と音韻規則
第14回: 複合語形成と音韻規則
第15回: 借用語と音韻規則

毎回授業の冒頭で、前回の授業内容を復習する.

Class 3: Sonority and syllables
Class 4: English syllable structure
Class 5: Onset
Class 6: Rhyme and nucleus
Class 7: Coda
Class 8: Japanese phonotactics
Class 9: Japanese syllable structure and mora
Class 10: Syllable typology
Class 11: Stress assignment rules
Class 12: Optimality Theory (OT)
Class 13: Affixation and phonological rules
Class 14: Compounding and phonological rules
Class 15: Loanwords and phonological rules

At the beginning of each class, the contents of the previous class are reviewed.

成績評価方法

レポート課題×2 (60%)，確認テスト×1 (40%)

授業時間外学習

毎回、授業で扱った教科書の個所と例を復習すること。そして不明な部分があれば、教員に尋ねること。
