Postwar Japanese History as Seen through 13 Moments

授業の目的と概要

この授業では、13の重要な瞬間の検討を通じて、第二次世界大戦の終結から現在までの日本の歴史を探求する。災害、世界との新たな関わり、政治・経済の変化、その他の注目すべき出来事を含め、新しい視点から戦後を概観し、戦後の社会と政治の根底にある連続性と非連続性の両方の線、そして戦後の世界秩序における日本の位置を規定した地域と世界のつながりを浮き彫りにします。

Course Objectives and Course Synopsis(授業の目的と概要)

This course explores the history of the period from the end of the Second World War to the present in Japan through an examination of 13 important moments. Including disasters, new engagements with the world, political and economic shifts, and other notable events, this class will provide an overview of the postwar from a new perspective, highlighting the lines of both continuity and discontinuity that underlie postwar society and politics, as well as the regional and global connections that have defined Japan's place in the postwar world order.

このクラスの主な目的は、戦後日本についての理解を深めるとともに、個々の出来事をより長い歴史的展開と結びつける手段を紹介することである。また、このテーマに関する英語での研究知識も身につけます。

Learning Goals(学習の到達目標)

The primary goals of the class are to build an understanding of the Japanese postwar among students while also demonstrating the means by which to connect individual moments with longer historical developments. Students will also gain familiarity with English-language research on the topic.
