Introduction to pragmatics

授業の目的と概要/Object and Summary of Class

含意とポライトネスを中心に、最新の論文を通して語用論の基本概念を学びます。
データは主として日本語、中国語、英語を用います。
This course is an introduction to basic concepts and principles of modern pragmatics.
Assuming no prior knowledge of pragmatic analysis, it covers fundamental phenomena such as implicature and politeness.
Many of the examples come from English, Japanese and Chinese.

学修の到達目標/Goal of Study

語用論の基礎知識を得ることによって、言語コミュニケーションの基本原理が理解できます。
英語の論文を読みこなす力が付きます。
Students will gain a basic knowledge of pragmatics and insight into linguistic meaning and its role in communication, as well as the ability to read the latest papers in English critically.

授業内容・目的・方法/Contents and progress schedule of class-授業計画

語用論の主な対象を概観した後で、特に含意とポライトネスを中心に学びます。
はじめの８回で基本概念を概観し、残りの７回で最近の論文を輪読する予定です。
After over-viewing main topics in pragmatics, we will focus on implicature and politeness by reading the latest papers.
