This seminar will contemplate over the U.S.-China relations during the the republican period of China by examining monographs which deal with this topic.
In the first half of this semester, students will be required to take part in discussions regarding the text books.
In the second half of this semester, students must conduct their own research on a topic related to modern Chinese politics.
Students will be require to give multiple presentations and participate in each week's discussion.
Deepening one's understanding on domestic politics & diplomacy of modern China.
Attendance rate(10%), presentation(40%), contribution to discussion(20%), term paper(30%)

Jay Taylor, The Generalissimo: Chiang Kai-shek and the struggle for modern China. Cambridge:Harvard University Press,2009.
Tang Tsou, America's Failure in China: 1941-1950. Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, 1963.
Over the semester, students will be required to prepare multiple oral presentations and a term paper.
Undergraduate-level training on contemporary Chinese politics is required in order to attend this seminar. Students who do not have such academic background must consult with the professor before registration.
English language fluency equivalent to 80 points or higher in a TOEFL-iBT examination is required.
