【国際共修】Promoting DEI on university campus through research projects
～調査プロジェクトを通じた大学キャンパスのDEI推進～
In this PBL course, groups of Japanese and international students will be provided with opportunities to conduct research and give proposals on promotion of DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) on university campus. Students will deepen their understanding of minorities in Japanese society and Tohoku University's policy of promoting DEI, and conduct their own research projects to identify problems through interviews, surveys and literature reviews, and propose how we can promote DEI campuses. This class incorporates intercultural co-learning methods where students from different backgrounds will collaborate on the projects.
この授業は、留学生と日本人学生のグループが大学キャンパスのDEIを進めるための調査・提案を行うPBL型授業である。日本社会におけるマイノリティや東北大学のDEI推進方針に関する理解を深め、インタビューやサーベイ、文献レビューなどの調査プロジェクトを通じて課題を発見し、どのようにDEIなキャンパス作りを推進していけるのかを検討・提案する。本授業は、留学生と国内の学生が共に学ぶ国際共修授業で英語を主要言語とする。
After completion of this course, students will be able to:
-use intercultural communication skills to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
-acquire basic knowledge about DEI promotion of Tohoku University and Japan through lectures and research activities.
-obtain skills to find problems, gather information, collect data and present effectively.

This course consists of three components: (1) lectures and workshops, (2) group work, and (3) research activities such as surveys and interviews. Basically, the course uses the Thursday 3rd period but may exceed the class time in the last session. Survey activities may be conducted outside of class hours.
Students will gain basic knowledge about minorities and DEI promotion in Japan and university campus in the first half of the course. Then students will work on a group project in the latter half of the course through research activities, final report and presentation.

この授業は(1) 講義・ワークショップ (2) グループワーク (3) サーベイやインタビュー等の調査活動で構成される。 木曜 3 限の授業時間を基本とするが、最終回は授業時間を超える可能性がある。また、調査活動は授業時間外で実施する可能性がある。
学期前半は日本社会とマイノリティやＤＥＩ推進の現状について学ぶ。学期後半では留学生と日本人学生で協働し、ＤＥＩに配慮したキャンパスの実現に向けた調査プロジェクトを進め、結果を提案として最終発表を行う。

Students will be assessed and graded based on active participation (20%), reflective journals/final report (40%), and presentations (individual presentation and final presentation 40%).
授業への積極的な参加(20%)、振り返りレポート/最終レポート(40％)、プレゼンテーション(個人発表、最終発表)(40%)によって成績評価を行います。
Students will work on the project with group members.
