日本社会の問題を歴史的に考える
Examining the problems of Japanese society from a historical perspective
目的：大きく社会が変革した明治期日本で生じたさまざまな歪み―社会問題―の事例を学び、議論する。その事例に基づいて社会問題に関する理解を深める。それにより、社会科学の基礎を身に着け、現代日本が抱える諸問題を長期的な視点で理解できるようになる。
概要：履修生全員で、明治期日本の社会問題について、教科書や学術論文、時には一次史料を輪読し、議論していく。
Purpose: To study and discuss case studies of various distortions - social problems - that arose in Meiji Era Japan, a time of great social change. Based on those cases, deepen understanding of social issues. This will enable the students to acquire the basics of social science and to understand the various problems facing contemporary Japan from a long-term perspective.
Outline: All students will read textbooks, academic papers, and sometimes primary historical documents in rotation and discuss social issues in Meiji Era Japan.

1.To read and understand an essay or academic paper, compile a presentation, and explain it.
2.To summarize an essay or academic paper appropriately.
3.To develop a debate based on the arguments made in the essay and academic papers they read.

5.To acquire basic knowledge about the history of the Japan social problems.
6.To consider social issues from a long-term perspective.
本講義はゼミ形式で行う。すなわち、参加学生自身が指定された文献を読み込んで発表して、参加者からの質疑に回答する。

This class is a seminar-style lecture. That is, participating students themselves will read and present the designated literature and answer questions from the participants.

報告（40％）と講義への貢献（40％）および期末レポート（20％）で評価する。詳細は初回講義時に説明する。
Evaluation will be based on presentations (40%), contribution to the lecture (40%), and a final report (20%). Details will be explained at the first lecture.
この授業では、グーグルクラスルームも使用します。URL（クラスコード）は後日お知らせします。
Google Classroom will also be used in this class. The URL (class code) will be provided in due course.
輪読の授業で報告を担当する履修生に、事前に課題論説・論文を精読し、その内容についてPPT資料またはレジュメなどの資料を作成することが求められる。
輪読の授業で報告を担当しない履修生にも、事前に課題論説・論文を読んでおくことが求められる。
履修生には、学期の最後にレポートを作成することが求められる。
Students are required to read the assigned essays or articles and prepare a presentation in advance.
Students are required to write a term paper.
原則として、報告者は自分のパソコンを使って報告することとする。参加者は共有された資料を自分のPC上で閲覧することも可能である。
Generally, reporters should present using own laptops. Participants may view the shared materials on own laptops.
・最初の数回で明治期日本に関する最低限の知識とイメージを教授しますが、その他で日本史で知らないことや疑問が出た場合、まずは高校の教科書（あるいは、鳥海靖『もういちど読む山川日本近代史』は明治期以降が明快に書かれた良書です）を読み返すことを推奨します。高校時代に日本史を履修していない学生も歓迎しますが、参考書の文献を手元においておくことを推奨します。
・講義場所は川内北キャンパス（具体的な教室は後日掲示）の予定です。
・In the first few sessions, we will teach the minimum knowledge and image of Japan during the Meiji period. If you have any questions or concerns about Japanese history, we recommend that you first read your high school textbooks. Students who did not take Japanese history in high school are also welcome, but it is recommended that they have a bibliography of reference books on hand.
・The lecture will be held at Kawauchi-Kita Campus (specific classrooms will be announced at a later date).
