To explain the basic structure of an academic essay, line by line, so students can construct an effective and convincing essay entirely in English. The class will cover the introduction paragraph, the body paragraph, and the conclusion paragraph, as well as the processes involved in developing effective titles, appropriate citation formatting, and basic grammar tips to help students draft the best academic essay that they are capable of.

成績評価方法及び基準

20% Attendance – I understand that some students have busy schedules, so 5 absences are permitted. Please talk to me if more absences occur.
20% At week 8, a first draft of the essay must be completed. It should contain an introduction paragraph, body paragraphs, and conclusion paragraph.
60% Final Paper – On the final day of the class, students must turn in an essay on a topic of their choice. The paper is heavily graded on standard essay format. It must have:
• Introduction paragraph, Body paragraphs, Conclusion paragraph
• Thesis clearly stated
• Body paragraphs contain evidence and explanations that support the thesis
• Plenty of your own ideas and thoughts
