1.Class subject
This class covers the concepts and analytical methods of basic mechanisms to achieve desired mechanical motions.

2.Object and summary of class
To learn a principle of simple mechanisms is important for better understandings of the complicated motions of mechanical systems. Aiming to achieve better mechanical designs, this class will focus on the basic concept of the mechanism. Students will also learn several mechanisms such as link, cam, gear and so on.

3.Goal of study
At the end of this class, students will be able to understand the basic concept of the planning and the designing of mechanical systems.

Students are preferred to learn “Mechanics”, “Mathematics І” and “Mathematics ІІ” in prior to the class.
The contents of this class would be related to the following classes such as “Design and drawing I”, “Design and drawing ІІ”, “Machine design I” and “Machine design ІІ”.

1. Introduction
2. Principle of mechanism: Degree of freedom / pair / chain
3. Mechanical motion: Instant center of the motions
4. Link mechanism: Graphical treatment of the mechanical motions
5. Mechanical motion: Mathematical treatment of the mechanical motions, Spatial mechanism
6. Link mechanism: Four-bar mechanism
7. Link mechanism: Analysis and design of the four-bar mechanisms
8. Cam mechanism: Classification of the cam mechanism / Disk cam
9. Cam mechanism: Displacement curve / Design of the cam mechanism
10. Rolling mechanism: Rolling and sliding / rolling curve and adjoined curve
11. Rolling mechanism: Friction wheel, belt wheel and CVT
12. Gear mechanism: Tooth profile, involute gears and sliding on the tooth surface
13. Gear mechanism: Gear train, planetary gears and differential gears
14. Summary
