物質・材料の基礎的微視構造や物性の理解を基に、社会的な要請に合う実用特性を理解・評価する道筋を学ぶ。具体的には金属、セラミックスなど代表的な物質・材料について、結晶構造、状態図、相変態、巨視的および微視的欠陥、拡散、強度、破壊など材料の基本的物性・特性について講義する。できるだけ多くの実例を交えながら基礎と実用の結びつきを解説する。

Micro-structures and some properties of materials or structures are lectured fundamentally. Concretely, crystal structures, equilibrium diagram, phase transformation, macroscopic and microscopic defects, diffusion, strength and fracture of metallic or ceramic materials are learned.
